Strengthening Family Ties
Notes From When™ software will use patented technology to help people write email notes that help kids understand how the world has changed since their parents (or their grandparents) were their age. For instance, the software will automatically draft a note from a parent to a child containing examples of what the world was like back when the child's grandparents were the child's age. The examples will be automatically selected by the software from topics the child is interested in.
You can see example notes in the Gallery and in the videos, showing what the software could automatically create by using the historic facts it provides, with the information about relationships, family events, and interests the user will provide.
Update: Prototype Underway
Exciting news - our web-based prototype design is near completion, and we are vetting programmers to implement it. We hope to have it up and running soon. The prototype will generate notes with three topics: Science, Music, and Sports. Stay tuned for updates - we look forward to your feedback on the prototype!
Project Progress and Plan
User experience specifications, examples of notes the software will generate, and underlying technology for the software are described in US Patent 8224817 and pending patent applications, and also in a detailed storyboard. Funding for this project will support implementation of the design in software by programmers under the direction of the project lead. Implementation will begin with the Apple iPad® platform, and progress from there to Apple iPhone® and Android® phone platforms as funding permits. Any additional funding will be used to spread the word about the software.
Software sometimes takes longer than expected to implement. But the Notes From When™ design is well documented, the underlying technology is well understood, and capable programmers are available to be hired and work under John's direction. So the main challenge is raising the funds to get the software implemented.
Notes From When™ project lead and software architect is John Ogilvie. John has degrees in math, computer science, and law. He worked as a computer programmer on graphics projects and on other software projects, and wrote two books for programmers. John is an inventor with over 20 issued US patents (primarily on software technology), as well as a patent attorney, son, father, and husband. He’s been working on the idea and design for this software since 2007, as the inventor of the technology design in US Patent No. 8224817 and as architect of the software design described in the app storyboard; excerpts from the storyboard are shown in the detailed video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOIbflXkRcs .
