Imagine you could create, arrange and group notes online as you can do with your sticky notes on a whiteboard. This is Noo. This will be Noo, with your support. It will be a visually appealing, easy-to-use open-source note taking application. Implemented using latest HTML5 standards and supporting mobile devices, too.
I'm the co-founder of Mediabird (famous for its Moodle integration) and I've created web apps (such as StreamDocs) for almost four years now - using various technologies from Java, PHP, jQuery, Grails, Google Web Toolkit, HTML5 etc. I am constantly getting emails what has happened to the Mediabird Moodle extension. With this project, I want to make it easy for students to prepare for exams by taking lecture notes, memorizing important facts from their notes and discussing topics in detail. By arranging sticky notes on a virtual white board.
From my exam preparations at university, I remember how important it is to keep notes organized and to collaborate with study mates to get better results. Providing the students with the right tools to do so, is my key motivation why I'm doing this. Now I need your financial support to work on this project.
What We Need & What You Get
Since I cannot charge for this open-source project and have no particular funding also, I rely on your financial support to be able to invest my time in this project. Fully funded, this project will cover my personal expenses for about three/four months which is the rough estimate of how long it will take me to implement everything.
What you will get is a well-documented, highly-scalable application that you can integrate into your own web app, deploy it onto your intranet or host in the cloud. The bigger perks include support as well as individual instructions on integration patterns.
If I don't reach the entire goal, I hope to be able to at least start this project and find other contributors and get it running (I'm using git)
Noo will not only make it easier for you to manage your notes, collaborate on your notes and group these, with the legacy intuitive usability known from sticky notes on a whiteboard. Additionally, it will allow you to enrich your existing web app or mobile application with the ability to easily manage notes.
As with the open-sourced version of Mediabird, I am looking forward to all the community contributions and use cases of this tool.
Supporting this project, you will allow educators, teachers, students, business people, teams, volunteers and many many more to easily create, arrange and group notes online. This project is about making this visually appealing and easy-to-use. No list-based approach, but all graphical.
Since I am creating Noo open-source, other developers can not only participate, but also benefit from my work.
Once this is done, I am looking forward to Dropbox, Google Drive, Moodle, Google Apps and further integrations.
