WHAT WE WANT TO DO ABOUT THIS
We don't just want to buy a simple name plate for Norman. We think he deserves much better than that. We want to get the grandest monument we can to place at his grave site, which will be custom designed so that there will be no mistaking who you are looking at when you see his grave. Unfortunately, the cemetery has instructed us that they won't allow a large monument. The largest we're allowed to place is a slanted stone, measuring 28"x16"x10". So, we're aiming for the best stone of that size we can get. Depending on media interest, we may also hold a public unveiling in Baltimore once the monument is placed.
WHAT'S THIS GOING TO COST US?
For $4188.18, we could get Norman the highest quality black granite slant-style stone, complete with an etching of his face, and all the text we can fit. If we double that to 8376.36, we can also get an identical stone for Norman's mother Carolyn, who is buried in an unmarked grave right next to him. The woman who conceived Norman deserves as much credit as he does for the years of entertainment he has provided us. We can still get Norman a stone if we don't raise the full amount, but it could end up being smaller, without the face etching, and just not as grand as we think he deserves. We'll be using a local Baltimore monument company to make the stone, in order to try and give some money back to the city that Norman called home.
SOLD OUT! - Our partner Bob Satterfield has made a generous donation of 20 autographed photos of Joe Cobb, the original "Big Kid" from Our Gang, who Norman replaced when he joined the gang. Contribute $50 or more, and you get one of these geniune autographed photos of Joe.
MINIATURE B&W CHUBBY FIGURINE! - We currently have a limited edition set of 5 miniature black & white figurines of Chubby, hand crafted by artist Lydia Jacobs. Only 5 of these exist in the entire universe. When they're gone, they're gone! Get one while you can. Contribute $50 or more, and one of these unique hand made items will be yours forever. And you can brag to your friends about how you have one of only 5 in the world.
SET OF 3 HAND-MADE FIGURINES! - Contribute $100 or more, and you will receive 3 hand-crafted figures. One full color "Chubby" figurine, and two of YOUR CHOICE of whomever your favorite characters are. Who are your favorites? Petey the Dog? Buckwheat? Alfalfa? Darla? Stymie? Froggy? Farina? You name them, and our friend Lydia will make them. One of a kind items, not available anywhere else.
However, the ultimate reward will be knowing that you helped to buy the head stone for Chubby, one of your favorite Little Rascals! Rest assured, Chubby's mother will be smiling down upon each and every one of you who help make this possible, after the many years that she tried and tried to make it happen, but wasn't able to. Let's make her proud.
(*When making contributions, please keep in mind that IndieGoGo fees combined with payment processing fees will cost us about 12% of the money raised.)
With the help of generous donors, our partners (Bob Satterfield and the Sons Of The Desert group, sotd.org) have already successfully placed grave markers for several stars of The Little Rascals and Laurel & Hardy fame, including Sam Lufkin, Harry Bernard, Viola Richard, and Edna Marion. Bob is also currently working on getting a marker for Mickey Daniels of Our Gang. It's bewildering that these wonderful people who entertained and were loved by so many would be buried without so much as a name plate, but this sort of thing apparently happens quite often. With your help, we're working on fixing this problem.
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP
We understand that some of you just don't have a dollar to contribute, but still would like to help. Never fear, friends, you CAN still help! "But, Mikal, how would I do that?", you may ask. Here's how: Please tell your friends and family about this campaign, post on facebook & twitter about it, post links to the campaign page on blogs & message boards, and check out IndieGoGo's "Share" tools (above) to spread the word as broadly as possible in order to make our goal a success, and give Chubby the memorial that he deserves!
