Hurricane Sandy has affected many, many New Yorkers. Staten Island and Long Island have been devastated, and Manhattan is just now getting itself back in order. The Pod Awful podcast (based in Brooklyn, NY) will be doing a "New York Marathon" in order to raise funds for the Red Cross' disaster relief efforts. Host Jesse P-S and NYC comedian cohosts will be on air for 12+ hours starting November 17th at 5pm, and trying to bring in the charity Jerry Lewis style. (No singing though[No promises].)
Contributing comedians include: Jeff Rubin (CollegeHumor, JeffRubinJeffRubin Show), Streeter Seidell (CollegeHumor), Myq Kaplan (Last Comic Standing, Hang Out With Me podcast), Jackie Kashian (Comedy Central Presents, Dork Forest podcast), Josh Gondelman (Attack of the Show, Laughing Skull Comedy Festival), Marshall Stratton (LandlineTV, UCBcomedy), RG Daniels (MTV's Guycode Blog), Adam Hiniker (EARCANDY podcast) Boris Khaykin (Collegehumor, North Coast), Pradogod (Anti-Semantic Show), Mark Thomas (Impractical Jokers), Ethan Stanislwski (Stand Up, Prefix Mag), Iliana Inocencio (New York's The PIT Theatre, The PITcast), Andy Beckerman and Mark Bisi (The Beginnings Podcast, Wrestling Team), Aaron Gold (UCB, Magnet), Zak Deickman (Chained Garden)
What We Need & What You Get
We set a pretty realistic goal. $1300. It doesn't sound like a lot, but think about it in just canned food. A lot of these folks affected have no power. They can't throw a hot pocket in a microwave and go. They have no stove or oven anymore. $1300 buys a lot of canned food.
Here's what you get for starters. The goal is to do over 12 hours of continuous comedy. I know, it sounds insane. It IS insane. Making the goal guarantees we go one for 13 hours. Every $100 donated after that goal is made forces us to keep going another hour. Even crazier is we will be instituting an open door policy. Any comedian who wants to show up can and very well may, during the broadcast. So we don't even know all of the crazy people that might be there. And its all live.
Remember, you can donate before the show date (November 17th.) so we may already have to go 15 hours before we even start broadcasting. All you gotta do is donate, and share the link!
There's more: PRIZES! We will be giving away very cool prizes to top donors.
- Signed copies of Jackie Kashian's comedy album (limited supply)
- Signed Impractical Jokers poster (limited supply)
- Signed copies of Myq Kaplan and Micah Sherman's comedy music album (limited supply)
- Pod Awful Stickers
- Personalized voicemails
The Red Cross is working hard to get people, entire communities, back on their feet. We know not everyone can get to a shelter and help out. So this is it, this is a positive way you can help and you get a weird, hilarious show out of it. Look, the real New York Marathon was canceled, and comics are too out of shape to run. Lets make a difference.
