Welcome To The Mytro
Imagine if, right now, clattering underneath your feet was a secret train system that could take you anywhere in minutes. Imagine a trip full of mystery and excitement from New York to Barcelona to the wind-swept coast of Italy to the edge of space. Imagine dangerous strangers, amazing friends, and high adventure.
I'm John Biggs, a tech writer and East Coast Editor of TechCrunch. I used to run Gizmodo and write occasionally for the New York Times. In short, I love to write and I wanted to share something cool I've been working on for the past two years - a new book called Mytro.
Written for young adults but fun for all ages, Mytro is the story of a secret subway system, the kids who discover it, and the strange and dangerous group bent on taking control of it. It's full of fun, adventure, and intrigue and I want you to be the first to have it.
About The Book
I was inspired to write Mytro when I discovered the famous statue of Lucifer in the Retiro Park in Madrid. The statue held so much grace and power I wondered if something could have been hidden underneath. A moment later the idea of the Mytro - of a secret train system that connected the world capitals - popped into my head. That was five years ago.
I love travel. My defining memories are of the long car drives between Columbus and Martins Ferry, Ohio we took to visit my grandmother as well as the many trips my family took to Europe. The romance of the rails sticks with me even today - I prefer a long train trip over a plane trip and have so little time to partake. I wanted my kids to know this same love, this same romance, this same mystery.
Why a novel? I don't know. In the interceding years I've done lots of writing but never YA fiction. But I knew I had to tell this story. I tried to mix my love of travel with a Da Vinci Code-like adventure that never stops. The whole story takes place in a day as the heroes criss-cross the globe using the Mytro until they discover its terrible and dangerous secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world.
The story centers around Paul "Turtle" Fulton and Agata Llorente, two high-schoolers thrust into a world of intrigue and mystery. Together, they travel the world to solve the mystery of the Mytro.
This is the first part of a planned trilogy. Book one is complete while the second book is currently plotted out and I've begun work on it.

What We Need & What You Get
I'm looking for $8,000 to help fund the following:
- A full, professional copy editing of the book
- A professionally printed and handsome hardback edition
- A solid, beautiful soft cover edition
- Fund the next two books in the trilogy
- Hire Bryce Durbin, online designer, to help illustrate the book.
What do you get? Depending on your pledge you will receive a copy of the book in multiple formats and you can even appear in the next book. You will also be a friend of the Mytro and get special perks as we approach the release of the next two books.
You will be helping me prove that crowdfunding is a viable publishing alternative and that the world is ready to work around the damage caused by traditional publishing.
Why Am I Crowdfunding?
I am crowdfunding for a few reasons, primarily to put my book where my mouth is. I talk almost weekly about the changes facing publishing today and I've never taken part in a crowdfunding effort. That's about to change. I think, with your help, we can talk about some of the problems facing publishing today and I hope to write a series of articles about my experience as I go from author to publisher in one fell swoop.
I could go the agency route - and I have. I just think that this is an experience well worth having and I hope to share the best practices with you guys once Mytro goes to press.
