Tucson needs your help
In the past year due to a number of different reasons Tucson has lost almost all of it's independent live music venues, however there has never been a venue that was specifically geared towards independent touring bands and local showcases in Tucson. We want to build a safe place to play and enjoy music for all ages.
Tucson is located right off of the main corridor from the west coast to the east, many bands drive right through Tucson on their journeys east, food is good and gas is cheap so it's the perfect tour stop not to mention the population approaching a million.
Is there support for this? Is it a sustainable space?
Tucson has a lot of established bands as well as many new bands playing their first shows every week (most times at a pay to play and no one wants that) what we don't have is a space to bring them all together. Local talent coupled with support from touring bands throughout the southwest give us one of the best talent pools around.
What else will the space be used for?
We plan to have music workshops scheduled throughout the months to help musicians hone their skills and develope new techniques, from gear maintenance and repair to songwriting we hope to build a collective music community and learning center.
Can this really work?
This format IS working in other cities on the west coast from 924 Gilman Street in San Fransisco to The Smell in Los Angeles and the greatest independent venue in America: VLHS in Pomona of which we have the support and advice to guide us to success.
We need to try to raise enough money to rent/lease a space
What we will need:
- To create an LLC
- 6 months of rent to establish the space ($800-$1000 a month)
- Some audio equipment to provide decent sound for the bands
- Money for utilities and supplies like water and restroom goodies
- Fundraising fees
Honestly we fully expect this space to be self sufficient by the six month mark by finding a modest location with low overhead and a team of volunteers helping build our base.
By providing a quality safe place to foster music in Tucson it not only helps our community of Tucson culturally but financially as well. This space will give independent musicians a chance to share their music with people comfortably and safely while providing affordable entertainment and fellowship in Tucson. We will also be able to help the community with music workshops for all ages giving aspring musicians a play to learn from young and old.
I have been promoting a local fest in Tucson for almost three years investing almost all of my extra money and time simply because of my love of music and my home. Almost everyday I have poeple, from friends to strangers, ask for my help to play Tucson and share their music, there is a desire to visit our town, enjoy our restaurants, buy our fuel and enrichen our community. Please help if you can so that I can help others.
