My name is Elizabeth Woods-Darby. I am a homegrown mountain girl from Colorado and my dreams are of acting and film.
I love it. I love the capacity film has for subtleties and the propensity it has for touching people in a very personal way.
I come from a very creative family, both my parents are artists and all three of us kids, are actors. It just runs in our blood; I've been acting since I was 5 years old.
I've done a lot of community theater, I've been in plays like Nunsense, Grease, and even a world premiere of the play Babbit -based on the 1922 novel-. I've done workshops, improv, voice lessons, dance classes; in 2010 I attended Perry Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp -the longest running performing arts school and camp in the country- and I've acted, as well as co -edited, directed and produced 3 short films. (Click here to see our first film Paper Heart!)
The more I am involved with film, the more I fall in love with it. I want to know it, I want to feel it in my cells. I want to challenge myself to strip away the fears that hold me from giving it complete life. I want to grow and challenge myself to be the best that I can be.
That's where school comes in. I discovered the Barrow Group Theater Company and School in Manhattan NYC, one night searching online and it sounded like exactly what I wanted. A short, intensive course on the rudimentary of acting. Covering the basics of script annuluses, monologues, scene work and moving into on-camera acting techniques.
I applied to their 6-week summer film acting program, as well as a night class on film acting 101. I applied, hoping but not really expecting to get in. It wasn't a week later I was sitting in the library when I got an email from them declaring me accepted.(!) It was all I could do to keep my jubilance quiet, lest the librarians hush me.
Now, I live in the rocky mountains and I work at a local goat dairy, seasonally, as a Goat Midwife, Milk Maid and Farm Hand. I have been working my tail off, and saving as much as I can to put towards this adventure, but I find that I am falling short. I need to have about 5 thousand dollars for my time in New York. So I am asking for your help.
What I Need & What You Get
I need to raise $2,700 dollars. I've already made and saved $2,500 dollars, from this past season of working, but it's not quite enough. Here let me break it down:
The money goes towards school ($2,400.00) Housing ($1,200.00) Food ($1,000.00) & Transportation ($600.00)
In return, I will give you my words.
$5 to 25 -You receive a personalized shout out on my Facebook page expressing my deep gratitude!
$25 to 50 - You receive a personal Post card sent to you from New York City
$50 to 100 - You receive a personal Poem handwritten and sent to you via snail mail- because snail mail is awesome.
$100 to 500 -Have a place in New York City that is your favorite? Or somewhere in New York City you have always wanted to go? Donate 100-500 dollars and send me a message with the exact details and location and I will do my best to go there, take a picture and write a story about my experience there. Then it gets posted to my blog.
$500 to 1000 You will receive a DropBox file of the next film I star in. (Granted that it's not a blockbuster hit, then you have to go the theater, with me!)
$1000 -Want to be my date for the next Paonia Film Festival Awards ceremony? There will be a red carpet and gowns and cameras! It will be epic! Limit one. Transportation and accommodation not included.
In addition to this, I will be posting my other adventures in the Big Apple to my blog: (barefootheart.blogspot.com) You can expect pictures, updates, poems, musings stories and introspection posted there.
I'm so excited about going to NYC and exposing myself to new adventures, people and ways of learning. I am also so thrilled to gain knowledge, that I can share and teach and spread with the farm girl hands I have.
I want to go to film acting school so I can bring an in-depth, honest and real portrayal into the films I create and am involved with. I plan to act in depth seeking films and my end goal is to inspire people to live full and wholehearted lives.
That's what it comes down to for me. It's not about the red carpets or the supposed fame or the movie stars. To me it is all about people and god knows we have a lot of people in this world. I want to do what I can to make movies that inspire, that ask deep questions and that touch people. That's what film does for me. I just want to pass it on.
I am committed to go. I have put down my deposit at the school, I found an apartment to sublease in Brooklyn and I purchased my plane ticket. This is an adventure I am so impassioned about and dedicated to. I know that it's impact will be something I carry with me for the rest of my life, no matter where life takes me.
