This will be the last post we’ll do here on Indiegogo as we’ll be moving all our updates over to the Misfit Blog: http://blog.misfitwearables.com – we’ll post more frequent updates there and will be able to include more pictures (we can only post one per update on Indiegogo). You’ll also see other content on the Blog that should give you more context of who we are and what we’re thinking.
Also, thanks for all the people who are standing by us despite the delays – over 96% of you have chosen to stick with us. We’re completely blown away by your trust and patience with us. It’s really motivating for the team, so THANK YOU.
BTW – there seems to be quite a bit of interest in the Leather Band so here’s the latest picture of it.
We know that yesterday’s announcement of our shipping delay to mid-July and not having Android support at launch was a big disappointment for our supporters and I am really sorry. We messed up and I take responsibility for this. Shine has been a much tougher product to make, without compromising quality and in the quantities demanded, than we had envisioned. We are indeed at the final stages of getting it out the door for you and don’t think there will be another delay now that we’ve got some of the key processes nailed down. We look forward to shipping it in July and hope the $25 gift certificate we’re giving to supporters who stick with us through to the launch in a small way makes up for the delay. We would of course understand if you can’t wait until then and would be more than happy to refund 100% of the money you entrusted to us.
To answer the burning question of when we’re going to support Android, I can only say “early next year.” There are a lot of different devices and screen sizes to support on Android and we want to get the user experience right. Although Shine can work on its own out of the box, the experience is obviously not the same without connectivity.
For those of you who want a refund, just email firstname.lastname@example.org and she’ll make sure you’ll get a refund ASAP. Again, we feel horrible about the delays. For those who are standing by us, a giant thank you for your patience and graciousness.
Big update guys: we have some good news and bad news. The good news is we’ve cracked the waterproof issue; we can get consistent waterproofing across all Shines now for swimming. The bad news is that this is setting us back and we won’t be able to ship your Shines until mid-July. Also, we’ve decided to only support iOS at launch. iOS allows us to roll out the features we want and give you the best user experience out of the box. We understand that these delays are disappointing so as always we would be happy to give you a full refund if you want one.
We are really sorry about this. To make up for it, we’ll give you a $25 gift certificate for anything on our store if you stick with us. Note that Shine will work on its own out of the box; of course if you sync it with your phone you’ll get the full experience.
BTW – check out this picture of Chris wearing the black Leather Band (with a black Shine)!
Have a great weekend!
As we mentioned last week, the consistency of the waterproofing is really kicking our butt but we think we’re getting closer to solving it. Most of the units test to 10 ATM, which means they’re super waterproof but we need ALL the units to test to this level. We’ll probably just claim 5 ATM to be safe, regardless, you’ll be able to use Shine with almost any recreational water sport, in the shower and even if you forget it and toss it in with your laundry.
For those who have been wondering how to change your shipping address, just email email@example.com with your info and new address and she’ll update everything for you.
We’ve been working around the clock to prepare for the shipping of Shine, hopefully by June as we announced back in February. One snag we’ve run into is with making sure we have consistency in the water resistance. We’ve got a pretty clever embedded O-ring design that helps makes this possible but we’re seeing inconsistencies in manufacturing, something we hope to make progress on by next week. We’ve been testing Shine units to 10 ATM (that’s over 300 feet deep of pressure) to make sure it’s super water-resistant. Most units seem to be fine but we need to make sure ALL the units will be fine. If the tweaking results in a delay, you’ll be the first to know.
Gosh, all this would be so much easier if we were making a plastic and rubber product, but then we’d miss the whole point of Shine. :)
Have a great week!
Ps. Our Hardware Team still going strong at 6:00am Thursday morning, well, at least 2 of them…
