Milk & Honey-Providing Hope For India
Milk & Honey- Providing Hope For India is a non-profit clothing company that is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for victims in the sex trade in India and beyond.
Last March co-founder and sponsored skateboarder Jordan Lovelis went on a skate trip to India and he fell in love with the culture but he also found out some very disturbing statistics. Women all over the country were being taken from their familes and into brothels sometimes servicing up to 30 men a night. It was devastating and overwhelming.
Milk and Honey Providing Hope for India was started to get these girls back into society and into a healthy living situation.
More than 2.3 million girls and women were believed to be in the sex industry, and experts believed that more than 200,000 persons were trafficked into, within, or through India annually.
As for co-founder Meredith Ambruso, who like many of us had only read articles and seen documentries about the horrors of sex trafficking, knew she couldn't be content with the knowledge at hand. Each time she was reminded of trafficking, she reflected on the idea of how one could not feel for these girls and the struggles they must be enduring. It seemed unimanginable.
After months of planning, Meredith & Jordan realized the problem at hand, and decided to take action against the hell that is human trafficking and Milk&Honey-Providing Hope For india was born.
HOW IT WORKS:
We are partnered with a place called Courage Homes in New Dehli that girls recover from the devastating effects of sexual slavery. (www.couragehomes.org)
We give them money every month to sustain their home, and they give us the stories to tell and lives to be transformed. In 2012, 16 girls have come through their home thus far. Through various mediums, they aid these women through the healing process of coming out of trafficking. It is both of our desires to see transformation and wholeness in every person that comes through Courage Homes.
Our hope is that through this continued partnership we will be able to expand Courage Homes and see the number of rescued victims expand greatly. Essentially, the more t-shirts we sell, the more girls we can help. Down the road, another desire we have is produce a documentary on human trafficking in India and the effects it has on women.
This company has been expanding at a rate we haven't been able to manage. Popular retailers are asking to carry us and this takes a lot of time and money. We currently do not have the funds to meet the demand. Through your donation, we can see this company come to fruition, and see lives changed.
It takes a lot of money to start a business. We have to worry about lawyer fees, t-shirts, screenprinting, bank fees, paypal fees, bigcartel fees, and the list goes on and on. So far we have put $2,000 of our own money into this business. We want to see it grow but we are running out of funds. Here is what we need:
$3,000 pay initial start-up business fees.
$2,500 fully stock inventory for retailers
$1,000 business banking fees, online retail fees, etc..
Minimum Funds Needed: $6,500
If you choose a perk that involves a t-shirt please go to our store and decide which one you would like...All sizes and styles availble for Indiegogo.
*Please allow 5-6 weeks for packages to arrive*
On another note, we as staff are not taking any of these funds. We have decided to not take a salary for 2012. This money belongs to these girls.
