What is Tetsuji's Shadow?
"Tetsuji's Shadow" is a fan-made live-action film based on the smash hit video game, "Mark of the Ninja" by Klei Entertainment. It's a filmic homage to the beautiful work that so many people have done to make the game great! If you like "Mark of the Ninja," action games, Splinter Cell, Batman, ninjas, explosions, sword combat, or any combination thereof, you'll LOVE this film!
We will be releasing this film in chapters online. So every two weeks or so, you'll find a brand new chunk of ninja goodness waiting to be enjoyed!
Who is behind Tetsuji's Shadow?
This film is an effort of a few people: Dan, Sam, Casey, Aaron, Tyle, D.L., Mark, and Michael. You can call us friends, workmates, teammates, conspirators, or even a company.
Our company is called "The Division." We're not a BIG company with huge resources, we're just a bunch of talented people who come to the same building every day and make things that are awesome. We have quite a bit of experience making TV shows, as well as all kinds of media including short films, web projects, animations, documentaries, and yes even wedding videos. Most of us live mooching off our loved ones, sleeping on couches, and taking home leftovers from friend's birthday parties.
In short, we love games and film, we want to make "Tetsuji's Shadow" because it's an awesome combination of both.
Wait... Is this a film or a webseries?
Well, it's actually both! We are shooting this project just like a film. The story arcs from beginning to end in about an hour, BUT we are going to release chapters of the story as they are completed. Just like there are chapters on a DVD, there are chapters to the story, we are just letting you see them one at a time. Every 2 weeks or so, you'll see a brand new chunk!
What does that mean for you? It means you get your ninja fix faster!
What is the status of production?
We're in pre-production, which is a fancy film way of saying we're getting all of the props, locations, actors, and other things together, not to mention nailing down the details of the script. We're set to go into production within the next few months.
How is this project funded? Where does the money go?
The project is funded by you and people like you! IndieGoGo is a great way to truly give power to the people! Here's how it works: You check out our campaign on IndieGoGo, if you think it's interesting, you pledge a certain amount of money to our project (pledges are handled by Paypal, so it's secure.)
Making a film just takes a lot of money. We have figured out how to do it pretty cheap, but there are still costs we just can't get around. Things like renting or buying equipment, costumes, gas money, swords, fake blood, food, and all the other things that might come up.
It may seem like lots of cash to throw at a project, but when you think about the fact that it's a tiny fraction of the cost of even a "no budget" film these days, it really puts it into perspective.
What if we don't meet our goal?
Our goal is to raise $40,000 to make a film from 60 -90 mins in total length. This is a flexible funding campaign which basically means that if we don't meet our goal, we get to keep some of the money. Whether it's $39,000 or $500, we will be making this film in some form. For obvious reasons, we will have to adjust production costs according to the ammount raised. This means that if we raise 1/4 of our goal, we will be making a film that is 1/4 of the run time. If a 40k film runs 60 mins, a 10k film might be 15 mins. All of the perks will remain the same, the runtime of the film will just be shorter.
So the power is really in your hands! If you want to see a full-length movie, make sure to share this project with your friends! The more support we gain, the better this project will be!
How can I help?
If you happen to have access to a gang of ninjas that can fly to Oregon to be in our film for free, that would be great.
YOU can help fund our project! That's right, you can pledge some sweet moo-lah on the right of this page to help us make a killer ninja film that will go down in history. We even have some awesome perks to make it worth your while!
