In 2012, John and Kim founded Brainfood Bookstore, the only bookstore in the world that stock exclusively independently-published literature. Here at Brainfood, we believe in supporting local indie authors and publishers, not sending our customers' money out-of-state for formulaic brainjunk from big publishers. 

While Brainfood Bookstore currently has the largest selection of locally-published literature in the area, we want to expand. Our dream is that you--whever you are-- will have easy access to books written right in your home town. Thus was formed Brainsnacks: An indie-lit-dispensing vending machine. 

Imagine going to do your laundry, waiting for your bus or train, or taking some quarters to go play at a local arcade. There, among the other vending machines, is Brainsnacks:A vending machine stocked with independently-published literature, written in your own community. By purchasing books from Brainsnacks, you:

• A) Have wonderful literature to read while you wait for you laundry/ the train/ whatever
• B) Support local authors and publishers
• C) Make sure your hard-earned money stays in state 
• D) Support vending machines that serve as a reminder to youth (and adults) in laundromats, train stations, and arcades, that writing is still a viable profession.
• E) All of the above. 

Currently, we have a traditional coin-taking vending machine for used books, but most of our books are priced at a rate impractical for coin-taking vending machines. We would like to purchase a few vending machines that accept credit and debit cards, to make indie lit more accessible for everyone.
