There really has not been any memorable information to update you with on the progress of the film. The film is complete, yes, I still would like to do some edit tweeks but the production company I partnered with has been busy and have tabled any changes. I have been submitting the film to many different film festivals and have only heard back on five so far with others yet to inform me of their decision. The five film fests I heard back from were Austin, Hollywood, Palm Springs, Sundance and Slamdance. All of which did not accept the film, but are limited in their acceptance and are truly difficult for any filmmakers to get into.
So with that said there will be more that will announce in January - February time frame. The production company took the film to American Film Market (AFM) in November shopping the film to distributors. There were many contacts made and leads. They have been sending screeners out to these companies, so we are waiting to hear back there as well. I had a private screening in Houston for backers in November and hope to have a proper premiere (in a movie theater) sometime next year. With the distribution process ongoing the production company is withholding releasing copies of the film. We are confident that the film will be distributed and once it is we will package and send out DVDs. I appreciate your patience with this most of which is out my hands personally. This has been a long process, but a worthwhile enjoyable ride. Again, thank you for believing in the film and me. More to come! Stay tuned! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!
All the best,
We now have two cool posters! These are the ones I will be sending out as perks! My friend and talented graphic artist Melissa Garza-Allen has created these cool posters. She has also helped make the website look more professional.
Still working on getting a screening scheduled and I will let you guys know when I have a date.
Inevitably things have not gone exactly to plan and for that I apologize profusely. I had hoped to send out backer DVDs and posters by now but unfortunately I did not budget well for this, essentially using every cent from the crowdfunding campaign and then some from personal expenses to get the film finished. It has been a hard fought battle to get the film complete. Suffice to say the production company I partnered with is happy to just wait until the film is distributed to offer DVDs, t-shirts and posters but I'm trying to do that sooner. I have been submitting the film to multiple film festivals really trying to carefully weigh the options on which ones to submit to instead of every festival. Unfortunately one festival I had hoped would be the world premiere was the Austin Film Festival and Mahogany Sunrise was not accepted. There is one other festival for 2013 I hope to hear back from soon but most of the others are not until 2014.
All in all I am pretty happy with how the film turned out. Sure there are things I would have changed and done differently but I feel fortunate to have been able to create what we did on our limited budget. The music soundtrack is pretty cool and the performances and images are great. I really hope you enjoy the film and find it moving and entertaining.
For those of you in Texas, I am hoping to have a premiere first in San Antonio and then one in Houston. I'm still coordinating and trying to find the funds to put this together. I will definitely keep everyone posted.
Eager to see Mahogany Sunrise? Then watch the reel of talented DP Amza Moglan. The first 2 minutes of the reel are some scenes from Mahogany Sunrise (2013) http://youtu.be/Kc0XaHlQWRs

I thank you all! Again, I apologize for the slowness of getting rewards and perks out. I cannot thank you enough for being a part of this and helping to get this film made.
In an effort to put the best foot forward I uploaded a higher resolution trailer. Please share it with your friends! More to come, stay tuned!
All the best,
