A widowed woman unable to carry on and who only lives in the odd chapters.
A fundamentally optimistic man who lives in the even chapters and is about to find out a shocking truth about his own identity.

These are the premises of Magpies, graphic novel about loss, love and the quest for the real self.

Magpies is a labor of love – it’s a very special project and it's ready to be printed!

The digital edition of Magpies is already available (and you get to set the price for that) but even if digital is supercool, I think nothing beats the feeling of flipping from one page to the next under a blanket.

Book Specs

The perfect bound book will be 160 pages, will measure 8x10 inches and will be printed on high quality paper.  Every page will be printed in full-color and will be awesome.

I decided to print in Italy rather than abroad in China like many larger companies do, to have full control over the printing process.

The plan is to send Magpies to the printer in January, after the Christmas madness. The printing process will take about 2 months for the proofs, printing and shipping to happen. This means I'll probably be getting the books around March or maybe April if something goes wrong (and let's assume it will: hope for the best and prepare for the worst).

But I'm hoping I'll be able to get my copies sooner than that, so that I'll be able to start shipping right away.

How does this work?

If you're not familiar with IndieGogo or crowdfunding in general, here's a brief overview. 

For the next 30 days, you'll be able to make pledges to help support this project, ranging from $5 to whatever you can afford without going broke or having to divorce. You can select one of the perks on the right, corresponding to the amount you wish to donate. This means you're not only being awesome: you are also receiveing stuff as proof of that! 

Your credit card or paypal account will not actually be charged at the time you make your pledge.

If the final deadline comes and we've reached our goal, then everyone gets charged the amount they pledged at the same time, and after Indiegogo and paypal get their share, I start printing and mailing books and t-shirts and whatnot. But if for some reason we don't meet our goal, the whole thing is called off. No one gets charged, no fees are applied, everyone just keeps their money. 

Of course, if we fail to meet the goal, then no one gets any rewards, and this is pretty sad.

What We Need & What You Get

We're hoping to raise $20,000 to pay for the cost of printing ($12.000) and producing perks ($6500), and cover the Indiegogo fee (that will take 4%), the PayPal fee (that will take 3,5% of what's left) /bank fees.

What's left is going to help cover part of the shipping costs, which are insane.

The money won't cover any my costs for making Magpies: I have already happily paid for that out of my own pockets. And I'm not trying to make a profit either: that will come later, when I'll be selling the copies that I'll have left.

In exchange for your support, you'll be able to choose between some basic rewards and some really amazing packages: they're all listed on the right, so pick your favorite! 

If this campaign goes over its funding goal, I already have lots of ideas for additional rewards: more pages, cooler additional rewards for those who already backed, special limited editions, original artworks, a juggling monkey… maybe not the monkey.

If the goal is not reached before the end of the 30 days, though, then you will not be charged anything. You only pay if the project reaches its goal before the deadline!

Shipping costs are already built into the rewards and I'll be paying most of it: retail price will be 30$ plus shipping, which will be 13 dollars for Italy and 25 for International shipping. So you might want to get your copy now and save some money!

Hi, my name is Sara Lando and I am a commercial photographer who also likes to tell stories.
