Lunar Labyrinth

A multidisciplinary performance event based on a new short story by author Neil Gaiman

20121220151130-lunar_web_1_v1

Come see what lies at the top of the hill, where the Lunar Labyrinth once stood. Will you be healed by the bright of the moon? Or blighted by the monsters hiding in her shadow?

Liars & Believers is collaborating with a dozen of our favorite performers to bring a new, unpublished short story by author Neil Gaiman to the stage on February 13, 2013 at Oberon in Harvard Square. Each collaborator is taking a part of the story and bringing it to life using music, dance, aerial performance, puppetry, poetry, storytelling, and more.

Neil’s short story is just shy of 3000 words, and we’re blowing it up into a feast for the senses. Director Steven Bogart is guiding the performers in unpacking meanings and themes – memory, identity, healing – and will put together all the pieces during our four day rehearsal period.

This talented group of artists includes Mali Sastri, Phillip Berman, Mary Bichner, Brett Cramp, Claire Davies, Jennifer Hicks, John J. King, Eileen Little, Corianna Moffatt, Masha Obolensky, April Ranger, and Karin Webb. You can read more about them at http://www.liarsandbelievers.com/Shows/Lunar-La...

Liars & Believers is an experimental theater company with a mission to expand the language of live performance. Through collaborations with exciting local artists, we strive to make Boston a center for theatrical innovation.

Join the enthusiastic audience that makes possible exciting new art in Boston. By supporting Lunar Labyrinth, you’re encouraging local artists to take risks and to challenge the status quo of what performance art can be.

Where does the money go?

We’re doing this with a minimal budget. The funds we raise are going towards

  • costumes and props ($200)
  • posters, postcards, and other artwork ($400)
  • technical staff ($500)
  • printing the program ($180)
  • other sundries ($500)

as well as Indiegogo’s fees (3% if we make our goal and 7% if we don’t) and credit card processing fees (3%)

As you can see, the cost of the show is more than the $1000 we set as our goal.

What about the performers??

All of our collaborators are being paid an equal share of the ticket sales, after expenses. The more expenses we cover from fundraising, the bigger the collaborators’ shares.

The performers have agreed to this model because they are excited about the project. By helping to cover production expenses, you are enabling them to be paid for their work. While few people become artists for the money, artists still need to eat. More importantly, you have the opportunity to make the statement that art has value.
