The Burn will take place on the Burnal Equinox First Friday, March 2nd 2012. The Burnal Equinox is the midway point between the 2011 Burning Man event and the upcoming 2012 Burning Man event We have partnered with First Friday Las Vegas to create a spectacular show and event! First Friday Las Vegas is a cultural mainstay in Downtown Las Vegas and the perfect backdrop for this inaugural burn event.
The location is a lot on the corner of S 3rd Street and E Colorado Ave. This lot has been graciously donated by local businessman and downtown arts supporter, Rick Truesdell for our use. This will be a '10 principled event' and we how vowed to Leave No Trace and leave the lot cleaner than when we found it! Burning Man: Ten Principles
Beneath Lucy herself, the Burning Opera will put on several revues of its Burning Man inspired rock opera "How to Survive the Apocalypse" in collaboration with Nytronix, a Las Vegas fire performance group in a flaming showgirl number. The Burning Opera will also collaborate with the Las Vegas Fire Conclave, Flameology and the LLL designers to create a lighting spectacle reminiscent of the primal fire rituals of the early days on the Playa. Performances start at 6pm and then at 8:15 the showgirl will be set a flame!
An Art Car Extravaganza will be headlined by The
Dancetronauts, a performance group that provides top-of-the-line sound
system technology, world-renowned DJs, cutting-edge stage lighting and
visual effects. The Dancetronauts will be spinning while Lucy burns.
This will be the 1st Public Burn in the HISTORY of Las Vegas!! The impact will be both immediate and lasting in that this project will pave the way for other creative, radically interactive, and community driven projects in the Las Vegas region and beyond!

Lucy's Story from the Beginning...
Lucky Lady Lucy (LLL)1.0 & 2.0, the 20ft tall showgirls! LLL1.0
thrived all summer long in Las Vegas and proceeded to Black Rock City
for Labor Day 2011 to participate in the Burning Man Project as part of
the Circle of Regional Effigies (C.O.R.E.). C.O.R.E. is a program that
encourages groups from around the world to create effigies that surround
the Burning Man statue. LLL 1.0 arrived in parts was put together and
then burned a week later, along with 24 other effigies, in the largest
planned art burn ever attempted.
For LLL1.0 The Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs granted the use of Boulder Plaza, in the Arts District, as a space to create an effigy in public and with community involvement over the summer of 2011. Volunteer builders from all over the valley participated in creating and building LLL1.0. From painting the giant chips, cutting wood, building slot machines. During First Fridays of these months, the plaza was decorated and filled with local art, theme camps and mutant vehicles, building community through art. The Las Vegas Arts Commission gave S.E.A.L( The Society for Experimental Arts and Learning- The Not for Profit supporting LLL 1.0 & 2.0) an art grant to build not just one effigy for Burning Man but to also build another one to burn as a project to inspire others, here in our home town, creating the 1st Public Burn in the history of Las Vegas!!
Upon returning from Burning Man 2011 it was time to begin the planning process for Lucky Lady Lucy 2.0 - the Las Vegas version and event!
To make this happen, the organizers of the project had to start working on creating a coalition of the local community, writing proposals, doing research and planning for the Burn. This coalition is made up of the Las Vegas Fire Department, The Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs, The Las Vegas Arts Commission, First Friday Las Vegas, Southern Nevada Air Quality and local leaders and businessmen.
See you in Downtown Las Vegas on March 2nd for the 1st BURN in Vegas Baby!
