Love Our Detroit

We're putting on an event to reverse the statistics and show the world that Detroit is more than guns and statistics! Help us take back the Motor City!

Help Us Redefine The Motor City!

With the release of last year's crime statistics, the spotlight is shining ever so brightly on us Detroiters because we're at the top of the "Most Dangerous Cities" list yet again. Just like with any major metropolitan city we have crime and drugs but there’s more to us than that, it’s just how we are portrayed in the media.

Love Our City, Inc., a soon-to-be nonprofit organization founded by Paris Dean, KaNisha Williams, and Dana Cochren, that was designed to promote love for, peace in, and positivity throughout Metro Detroit, is trying to raise $30,000 to help fund the first "Love Our Detroit Festival", a two-day, multi-part event promoting love for, peace in, and positivity throughout Metro Detroit, because with the release of last year's crime statistics, Detroit is getting a lot of bad press and we wanted to fight back by showing the world that we, the Youth of Metro Detroit, are more than just statistics and that we cannot be judged by where we live.

What We Need & What You Get

We're planning the first “Love Our Detroit” festival, a two day, multi-part event promoting love, peace, and positivness...ity throughout Metro Detroit. Events would include a concert with local musicians, a dance-a-thon, door prizes, face painting, a fashion show, a "Find Your Friend" event with the Michigan Humane Society, a flash mob, hourly raffles, a silent auction, a “Sit ‘n Learn” where people can come and listen to stories about “the good old days” from the people who lived them, and a “Detroit’s Got Talent” talent show where the winner will receive a trophy, a $200 cash prize, a gift basket filled with Detroit goodies, and the chance to defend their title at next year’s festival. We're also producing a short documentary called "D Love" about love in the Detroit.

Depending on where we have the event, up to 50% of the money raised would go towards renting the venue for two days, another 25% would building a stage, and the rest would go towards things like renting tents, tables, chairs, and bounce houses for kids and printing the t-shirts so we would just barely break even with $30,000, however, we would like to do this every year and eventually take Love Our City, Inc. on the road to other troubled Metropolitan cities and help them put on shows to rebuild their image.

We have some pretty cool perks starting as low as $5 for a spot on our "Wall of Love" on our website, to $50all the way up to $10,000 for a celebratory dinner after the event with the "D Love" crew at Detroit's Coach Insignia and an honorary seat on our Board of Directors! So whatever your budget, we have something for you!

These are the standard t-shirts you to choose from.

This is the "Motor City Legend" Sponsor Trophy. It's made of glass and it's 100% by hand. Pretty nifty, eh?

 Break Down:

  • Venue & Permits - $15,000
  • Stage & Equipment - $7,000
  • Tents, Tables & Chairs - $2,500
  • T-Shirt Printing - $5,480

This event would mean a lot to Detroit youth because the event was designed specifically to be a place for us to come together and show the world that we are more than just guns and statistics; we're taking back our city and we need your help.

Cobo Hall: Where we'll most likely have the event.

Other Ways You Can Help

We need sponsorships and contributions but if you can't make a monetary contribution, don't worry because there are plenty of other ways you can help! For example, if you're in Detroit you can come down and help pass out flyers and t-shirts, or, you may know someone who owns a business that may want to be a sponsor. And if you're not in Detroit and you can't make a monetary contribution, you can always help spread the word.
