Happy holidays, folks!
Just a quick note to update you on LOVE & OTHER STUNTS. That's Gary Kent front and center at the recent Fantastic Fest where he joined Chuck Bail, Bud Cardos and Bob Ivy (three stunt legends you'll see in our doc) to discuss and demonstrate stunts.
Another stunt guy to go in front of our camera was Gary Beall (on the left posing here with Bob Ivy. That's Ivy next to a car he'd just flipped off a ramp). Beall worked stunts hard in the '90s, including in RoboCop 2, and is a great addition to the doc.
Editing of the doc footage is under way as we work toward a rough cut. After that comes the process of making sure we have all the permissions to use film clips. When will this story hit a big screen near you? Stay tuned. We're expecting great things in 2014.
Thanks again for all of your support.--Joe O'Connell
A quick update on Love & Other Stunts. I sat down with film editor Drew Thomas today to look at footage we shot recently in Los Angeles. It's beautiful! We dropped a few snippets on Youtube to share with you. These particular clips probably won't make it into the final film, but they give you a taste of what we're after.
Thanks again for all of your support. Please feel free to share the clips with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and everywhere else as we move closer to making this documentary a reality.
Here's director Richard Rush from the living room of his Malibu home talking about the start of his film career. I'll send you another clip soon.
Take care.--Joe O'Connell
A quick note to update you all on the Gary Kent documentary. We’re aiming to have a rough cut by the end of the year. In a few weeks, Gary, I and film editor Drew Thomas will head to Los Angeles for some key interviews with folks including directors Richard Rush and Monte Hellman (we’re still trying for Jack Nicholson, too!) and actor Marc Singer.
In other words, we’re moving forward thanks to your help.
While I’ve got you, here’s a brief clip of Gary that I shot on my digital camera the other day. Enjoy.—Joe O’Connell
Gary Kent on childhood bullies
Folks, Meet Drew Thomas, who is working with me to edit our LOVE & OTHER STUNTS footage into something that we can be proud of. Drew and I met today to set up our battle plan, including what additional shoots may be needed.
Books, DVDS and photos have been signed by Gary Kent and are finally ready to go in the mail as your perks. This ended being a bigger project than I expected with more than 100 of you joining our cause!
I’ll keep you updated along the way, but now all I can offer you is a huge thank you for pushing this dream project toward reality.
Take care—Joe O’Connell
Drew Thomas, our film editor
We’ve reached our IndieGoGo goal (say that three time quickly) for the documentary LOVE & OTHER STUNTS, but the campaign still has 59 hours to go as of this moment!
Today Gary Kent and I sat down with JIm Swift, the famed human-interest-story guy from KXAN-TV in Austin, Texas. The piece is slated to run at 10 p.m. Tuesday. If you’re in Austin, check it out live. The piece should also be viewable on the Web soon. I’ll pass on the link when it becomes available.
Gary signed photos, DVDs and books for contributors today. They will go in the mail to you this week.
Thanks again for your support!—Joe
