There is a 2nd campaign ostensibly to raise money for me. I’ve asked ingiegogo to remove it, as they did the first. Please don’t make any more campaigns attempting to raise money in my name, either as a bad joke, or some kinda misplaced positive sentiment. Thanks!
I guess it needs to be reiterated: Not a SCAM. I am not Max’s buddy – I’ve never met him or even spoke on the phone. (Messaged him on reddit yesterday – that’s only contact we’ve had.) He gets none of Karen’s money (while other 3rd parties such as indiegogo, and the CC companies do get a substantial cut.) He will get ALL funds generated by this separate campaign. Indiegogo actually froze this campaign yesterday, and contacted me by phone to verify my story and and that I’m actual human being. I’m a bit of a skeptic myself, but I would put a degree of trust in indiegogo to at least ensure that funds are channeled to the party or parties as “advertised.” Their whole business model revolves around maintaining the trust of their users, so they’re not going to take any type of fraud lightly.
That said – thanks again to everyone who donated and commented!
We topped our goal! Thanks everyone! I’m sure Max will be grateful and appreciative. Yay internet kindness!
A great quote from a redditor which sums up my feelings & motivations better that I could have:
“Many of us are not donating to Max. Some of us are not even donating to help Karen. We’re donating to start a discussion about a new way of thinking about giving. We’re donating to start a discussion of a new focus on efficiency and administrative costs in an era of DIY. We’re donating to the nation’s discussion about Karen.
Max is bearing a lot of the cost for starting this conversation. Some of us want to help him out with that, because we think it’s important.” -ascas
The Campaign was temporarily frozen due to unhappy people flagging it. I had a nice chat with indiegogo’s awesome customer support, and they brought it right back!
The rep I talked to has also been talking with Max, so i’m going to let the two of them figure out his bank info so I can be hands-off.
