I am a journalist and photographer who was born, raised and still lives in London. I have become more than a little obsessed with the city of my birth. I have spent years wandering with my camera, exploring every nook and cranny of the city. I do London Open House each September and find something new each year to explore. 2012 marks the Olympics coming to London so there will be more tourists and visitors in the country than there have been for years. I want to put a book together that will feature photos of different places and different people in London, taken over a twelve-month period. This book will try to reflect and encapsulate the flavour and feel of the city, whether it's tourists wandering around Camden Market, Oxford vs Cambridge on the River Thames in the annual boat race or Wood Green High Road. It would also including writing to complement the photos that are included, so this will give it extra context.
I want to make a book that brings home the diversity and appeal of London as a city, offering readers a small glimpse into its cultural life. It is a project that I would really be able to get my teeth into as a photographer and it would be great to have the opportunity to follow a themed project for an entire year, showing the different seasons, different light and different look of a city over a 12-month period. I am just beginning to plan what I would shoot each month so I want to get all of the shots from scratch during the period of January 2012-December 2012 so it really does reflect this specific period.
What We Need & What You Get
To print 500 copies in paperback and 100 copies in hardcover costs 5261 which works out as around $8500. I also want to be able to promote the book at bookshops and mail out copies to bookshops. I also would like to organise a photography exhibition to celebrate the book at a gallery in London and I would also like to make it available to order for customers outside the UK. I shall offer people some pretty cool perks in exchange for pledging like limited edition signed prints, signed hardcovers and invitations to the launch party of the book and the photography exhibition. Whatever you pledge will be a big help to me, so the more you pledge, you more you get.
