Who We Are

Hi! We're Toby Fell-Holden (Writer/Director) and Quinlan Orear (Producer) - graduate students at Columbia University's Film School in New York City.  "Little Shadow" is our Thesis Film and will be our culminating project at Columbia after years of hard work and training.  We are committed to telling unflinching, character-driven stories and are excited to share our passions with the world in the form of "Little Shadow."

The Story

A young boy, KYLE, takes a detour before home with his father, who's just returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan. On their way there his father attempts to instill upon Kyle his conception of respect when dealing with his peers and women. Once at their destination, Kyle is pushed aside, left to hang out with some rough-around-the-edges kids while his father makes a dubious trade. Kyle's intrusion into this more adult world is immediately challenged and he tries to keep his head above water with false maturity and aggression until a game of spin the bottle leaves him alone with a more experienced girl. It's at this point that Kyle starts to learn to what extent he's really like his father, and soon comes to question whether his father was ever a good role model.

The Help

Little Shadow has been selected for a prestigious Moving Picture Institute Fellowship which means MPI are committed to supporting the film and are our Fiscal Sponsors. We already have recruited the help of Donna Deseta (casting director of "Knight and Day," "Kandisha") and cinematographer Andres Karu (films official selections of Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, LA Film Festival). As well as, Co-producer Chris Boyce.

The Production

Casting and location scouting is already well underway but we need your help to see this through. This film will only be possible with the right locations, professional equipment, a talented crew, stellar actors, and sufficient means for food and transportation. Although this story is designed to be an economical production, there are basic costs that cannot be avoided if we're to maintain a professional standard through to the end.

A movie to be proud of

Any donated funds will be met with our utmost gratitude. We have fiscal sponsorship which allows patrons to write off their donations on their taxes. Contributing to the film will make you part of the team; you'll be up to date on all of our progress as we come closer to filming and will have access to special behind the scenes footage. Your help means the world to us, Toby Fell-Holden (writer/director) and Quinlan Orear (producer) - Even if you cannot donate, please spread the word!
