In 2009, there were over 13,752 murders in the United States of America. One of those victims was Ashleigh Love.
Ashleigh Love was an 19-year old girl who had just graduated from Pius XI High School in Milwaukee, WI. She had her whole life ahead of her and was eager to head to college and chase her dreams. On October 6, 2009, Ashleigh Love went to sleep in her house like every other day. In the middle of the night, an intruder broke into her family’s home and heartlessly took Ashleigh’s life. Ashleigh left behind friends and family who loved her dearly. To date, the faceless cowards that committed this cruel crime have not been brought to justice. The search for Ashleigh’s killer is ongoing. Family and friends remain positive that one day justice will be served.
“Letters to Ashleigh” is a film project that is intended to share Ashleigh’s story while raising awareness about ending senseless violence in our communities. We also wish to provide hope and inspiration to families who are battling similar circumstances so they realize that even after the darkest of hours, you can still find strength to carry on.
This is not just a movie. This is a movement.
During the movie, we will watch as people from all walks of life read letters (to Ashleigh) about the impact one person's senseless death can have. As the movie progresses, we will watch as these people's lives begin to overlap. Toward the end, the community will unite together and send glowing lanterns into the heavens with their letters to Ashleigh attached. While Ashleigh is the ‘vehicle’ for this project, we feel that Ashleigh is a universal symbol for all loved ones who have been lost to senseless crimes.
In the letters written to Ashleigh, people will have the chance to express their feelings and emotions about a variety of topics, including (but not limited to):
- finding peace
- having a voice
- finding justice
- how to move forward after loss
- having the courage to fight on another day
- the importance of community involvement
- the impact of a violent crime on a family and community
- and many other issues
Why is THIS story so special?
Ashleigh’s story is a universal story. So many times, we watch the news on TV and hear about another tragic event. Very rarely do we ever hear the follow ups. Days, weeks, months, and even years later – these stories go forgotten. This movie is an opportunity to expand upon those types of stories you would see on the news and to put a face…a family…a real emotion behind it. What if this was your child? What if this was your life? This movie will help you to understand and will raise awareness about pivotal situations. We want to keep these stories alive. We want to keep Ashleigh’s memory alive.
Who is shooting this film?
Kyle Olson is filmmaker who was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. Now living in Hollywood, CA, he has worked on a variety of shows including “Dancing with the Stars”, “The Bachelorette”, and “America’s Next Top Model”.
Kyle has produced a number of video projects before (both in Hollywood and Milwaukee). This is a story that is near and dear to Kyle’s heart because his best friend, Anthony Love, is Ashleigh’s brother.
Together, we will be able to share a story that desperately needs to be told. We can stand united and help raise awareness about this important issue so that our loved ones whom we have lost have a new legacy.
What We Need / How Your Money Will Be Spent
All of the money for this project (minus IndieGoGo fees) goes directly to the project. Period.
Equipment – Cameras, lenses, lighting, and more! All of which contribute to a high caliber of film
Locations – While we don’t have many locations, the ones we have require us to pay for a film permit. These cost money.
Food – Because our cast and crew is full of volunteers who work for free, the best way we can thank them is top supply them with the needed sustenance to make it through the long hours of a shooting day.
What You Get

Excess fundraising would also be used to help defer costs of submitting this movie to local and national film festivals.
Please Note: This project will ONLY be produced if we raise AT LEAST $3,000.
If we DON’T reach our goal, the funds will be donated to local support groups that help grieving families cope with the loss of love ones.
Other Ways You Can Help
We are aware that not everyone can help give financially to our project, but that does not mean you still can’t help us!
