Stott Space will be having a live interivew on Spacevidcast March 9th 2pm MST. Join Us!!!
The Plan
This movement's mission is to execute the following steps allowing the common man to work, learn, vacation, and ultimately settle space:
Step 1: The Space Movement!
Get as many as possible to get excited and support the movement by buying, displaying, and talking about space merchandise. Encourage everyone to convince their friends, family, co-workers, and social networks to form or participate in events all around the world like flash mobs, college parties, viral video contests, forum discussions and whatever else that can be done in the name of the movement. If we work together we can bring the common man to space...
Step 2: Asteroid Mining!
The money generated will be put to solid use in launching an Asteroid Mining mission thats capable of gathering and returning resources to earths orbit by the End of This Decade!!

This will serve as a catalyst to building a self sustaining space economy. Lets not just research and talk about space, lets actually do something in space and start "Living off the land" where it is much less expensive then massive launch costs. See Below for technical details of this mission.
Step 3: Facilitate Space!
Lastly the excitement from our movement will be used to facilitate space by encouraging new and existing companies to come together and build a Space Colony out of these resources. The Colony initially should be in earths orbit where it is safe, close, and can harmonize with earth. Ultimately the colony should allow for all space based businesses to utilize each other in creating a self sustaining space economy. Most Importantly this will create jobs for the common man in space. Here is a list of some of the existing and up and coming industries that we should encourage: (For more in depth information click here)

Why we will succeed
Stott Space is founded by a team of four brothers who grew up together on a hard working cattle ranch in Montana. Looking up at the stars every night in that Big Sky instilled a passion in each of us that will never falter. When we decided to do this, everyone around us thought we were crazy as we had no experience in the space industry and it was such a daunting task. Ultimately it was the support from each other and fate that helped us every step of the way especially as we were able to get many professors and industry professionals excited about our vision. Our CTO Michael Buet (LSSB) in fact found us, and asked to spear head our technical solution. His consulting and past experience with many companies in the industry such as Boeing, Orion, IBM, Star Tech, etc.. had us jumping at the opportunity. Michael also brought along close ties to Jerome Pearson, Star Tech President, former NASA engineer, and inventor of the space elevator who has advised and helped us. With all the experience our technical team brings to do the space side each Stott brother brings their own experience in being able to build a solid company capable of spreading the word and convincing others to help. Isaac's strong fearlessness to approach anyone helped him found his own successful security company teaching him valuable lessons in sales and marketing. Chad founded and Jason helped create a very successful industry changing online cloud based software company, giving them the needed knowledge to push this movement to the world through the internet. Roy has founded his own well known heating and air company giving him valuable people skills and business knowledge needed to make a solid company. Our best member of our team however is you, the common man. Our company was formed with you in mind and we will continue to make you a part of space in all that we do.
The Technical Side
If you're thinking this all sounds great but need more details on how we're able to get this done so fast... here is a technical writeup from our CTO:
Concept
The basic idea of this game-changing concept is to launch a new, simple, straight-forward asteroid mining Mission via a Falcon 9, combining existing system components for guidance and landing systems, and the simplest possible mining tool to extract and pack the regolith ore from one of the nearest asteroids, which will be selected based on albedo, lowest delta-V and inclination. The goal is to consistently and repeatedly return several tons of asteroid regolith to Earth orbit at each pass. No prior study needed, no complex swarms of study space vehicles and telescopes, just a simple digger!!! We can do this now, and leap-frog into full commercialization of space exploration now, not in 15-20+ years. The potential is to radically end the dependence upon Earth-launched materials for building real, livable orbiting space stations with artificial gravity, Deep Space exploration spacecrafts build solely for space Zero-G & commercialization of the riches of the solar system. It will be the Milestone that starts the Space Exploration Gold Rush and the explosive growth of space-based Industries.
Only the 1st couple of payloads will be re-entered down to Earth surface for analysis, and to provide the basis for creating and lofting specialized automated and solar-powered ore-separation systems that would include a 3D printer capable of manufacturing parts in orbit. All other Return Vehicle Modules will be designed with significantly increased ore-carrying capacity via expandable storage that will not need to go through full re-entry, but will be parked in orbit upon return until we are ready to process them. Once in Earth orbit, the payload can be moved towards the ISS or any other commercial customer's processing facility in orbit using its ion thrusters and attitude control jets, which will be designed to be re-fueled if necessary. This will provide NASA and any commercial in-orbit manufacturing facility with a continuous source of raw material for study and micro-G manufacturing, using FREE solar power in-orbit.
MISSION APPROACH
The strength of this approach is that it will be built upon all the research accomplished by NASA and the International Scientific Community to date, and use the simplest possible methods and technologies to achieve the rapid delivery of raw building material in Low Earth orbit (LEO) (~40 metric tons of raw regolith by circa 2020) for use on the ISS and for commercialization to private enterprises, which will now only have to loft tooling and the necessary electronics to process the ore into whatever finished structural product they desire.
This simplest possible system will be a low-risk Mission with multiple redundancy systems to ensure success, built upon a long history of past successful methods, and using proven discrete devices that will ensure maximum chances of success and greatly lowered actual risks.
The Automated Mining System (AMS) has four independent Return Vehicles (RVs), with two RVs setup for re-entry into Earth atmosphere to make sure we have at least one back on Earth for payload regolith thorough analysis. The other two RVs will be lighter, designed for LEO insertion only. The one re-entered RV payload will be used to finance the operation by providing an incontrovertible proof-of-concept to the financial and scientific community. It will provide all the scientific specific composition data to develop a targeted automated ore-refining and parts manufacturing (IOPM) system to be placed in orbit, designed to maximize the uses of that particular asteroid regolith right here in LEO from the remaining three RVs. These will be simply brought back to LEO and will remain there for later use by the future IOPM and/or for delivery to Customers.
It is a radical game-changer for the entire Space Industry, stepping away from the "Scientific study mode" to boldly stride in the full-scale exploitation mode of space through in-orbit manufacturing of space habitat and deep space exploration vehicles.
It is the start of the long-awaited "Space Gold Rush".
The real strength of this approach is that even though it breaks new grounds in the Space Race arena, it can actually be accomplished and launched basically right now, using almost exclusively space-proven existing elements: The critical challenge resides only in combining existing propulsion, guidance and communications technologies, and integrating them into an innovative automated, semi-autonomous robotic mining system (AMS) using a simple post-hole digger adapted to micro-G and low temperatures. This has never been proposed before:
Mission 1 is designed to simply go out and bring back several metric tons of the raw material to Earth orbit before the end of this decade, thereby leap-frogging all current NASA programs into the era of full commercially-viable industrialization of space. It also by-passes all the convoluted "study-study-study-before-we-go-for-it" plans of the nascent space and asteroid industry companies (Planetary Resources, Deep Space Industries, Moon mining plans, etc.) It is the one simple, bold game-changer that can provide all the raw materials needed by NASA and entrepreneurs in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) to manufacture almost anything they desire in orbit by bringing a never-ending supply of building materials to them.
Think you've found a flaw in our plan? Great Contact us., if you're correct you just might be someone capable of helping us execute a solution that will work…
