Larkin, the story...
We follow former District Attorney Sam Larkin, who is suffering delusions of his dead wife as he seeks revenge upon the man that caused her death. Our goal as filmmakers is to bring the audience to a point of reflection with Sam - feeling what he feels, and accompanying him on his journey as he closes in on his final act of vengeance.
The Team...
Orin Mazzoni: Director, Producer, Writer.
Orin is a graduate student at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. Orin most recently directed a limited viewing of a play by Ethan Coen called "Almost an Evening", which received great reviews to two sold out audiences.
Natalie Weiss: Director of Photography.
Natalie is an accomplished cinematographer, working on several short films, music videos, and documentaries. She won the 2009 Epidemic Film Festival in San Francisco for Best Documentary. You can view her professional reel at: www.cineweiss.com
James Thomas: Assistant Director, Creative Producer.
A graduate student at the Academy of Art, James also has a BA in Film Studies from North Carolina State University. He has been directing short films since 2003, and was Assistant Director for Stella by Starlight's music video "As Good As It Gets" which was put into rotation on MTVU in October 2008.
The Goal...
The goal of this film is twofold. First, we wish to bring a real, gritty story to life that an audience will enjoy. Concurrent with this is our wish to showcase our talents as a team. We are working our best so that Larkin is not just festival-worthy, but award winning and noticeable. In addition, Larkin has the potential for a much deeper, feature-length commitment, should our vision of it as a short come to fruition.
Where Your Funds Go...
Being a student project, all funds raised here will go directly to the production of the film. None of the funds used will be paid to the cast or crew or as salary to anyone at the Academy of Art.
As students, we already possess the basic equipment necessary to shoot the film; what we need now are permits, props, costumes, make-up, locations, etc. These little costs end up to be quite a sum at the end of the day, and any help we can get is very much appreciated. We will be shooting with 16mm color film, which will be perfectly fitting for the story. The best part of this is that this film would normally cost around $100,000 to make, but as students of the Academy we have all the equipment we would ever need at our disposal, including the film and processing.
