Drums roll, flags wave, a stilt walker hula hoops while marching down Alberta Street. It's part marching band, part circus and a whole lot of fun!
The Joy Now Arts Project is a performing arts program for youth 12-18 years old, based in Portland, OR.
Our progam was founded and is taught by members of the wild and joyfully infectious MarchFourth Marching Band - Portland's own big band rock n roll carnival circus spectacular!
In 2011 we decided to start a summer camp for teenagers. This was inspired by our desire to bring the magic of MarchFourth into the community and by our passion and dedication to offer ways for the next generation of youth to express and empower themselves. We wanted to create something wild and original that would focus on cultivating creativity and artistic passion as much as it would foster a greater sense of self-worth and confidence in the youth participating.
Since then, we have offered TWO wildly succcessful summer camps and now we are excited to announce the kick-off of our year round after school program!
Our program is being built from the ground up. 100% of our revenue comes from student tuition and support from people like YOU. We want our program to be accessible to any youth who wishes to join and we need your help!
We know that the students who can benefit the most from this kind of experience are often those without the financial means to afford it. Your donation will mean more students can join and get access to this life-changing experience.
You can help us make it happen!
Your donations help us ensure equal access to performance arts education for all youth!
Helping us reach our goal of $5,000 will allow us to:
- Offer 16 scholarships to youth to be able to attend our Performance Program!
- Purchase instruments, circus mats, drums, hula hoops, stilts and other much needed camp supplies
If we don't meet our goal, all funds receieved will go into our scholarship fund or towards buying much needed supplies.
Not only will you be karmically rewarded for contributing to such a worthwhile cause, we're also throwing in some rewards! Check out our list of awesome incentives to the right.
All over the country, schools are navigating drastically diminishing budgets. Unfortunately, arts education is one of the first subject areas to be cut. We know the crucial role that music and art plays in intellectual and personal development. After all, it was these school programs that started many of us on our own paths to creativity.
That's why we're so excited to offer an alternative to students who do not have band programs or other performance arts opportunities in their schools. Even for students whose parents can afford private lessons, nothing can replace the valuable and often more rewarding experience of being part of a larger band.
The Joy Now Arts Project after school programs will give youth the chance to participate fully and actively in a community centered around art and positive collaboration. As well as a music & performance art program, it is also a life-skills, and global awareness program. Youth will have the chance to do new things, explore multiple creative practices, learn and share different points of view, build self-confidence, and learn how to use art for positive and effective social change.
