Helping Vancouver Rape Relief & Women's Shelter
Currently 1 in 4 North American women will be sexually assaulted during their lifetime, however of every 100 incidents of sexual assault, only 6 are reported to the police.
Rape is a topic that isn't openly discussed enough, and we really want to support the victims by improving their lifestyle. Studies have show that women that are active:
* Develop a higher self esteem
* Has a lowered level of depression
* Decreases their chances of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart conditions.
For the month of May, every piece sold from this campaign will be matched with the donation of one Light Activewear item to the Vancouver Rape Relief & Women's Shelter.
We strongly believe that a healthy mind and body increases your confidence and happiness.
The We Care Campaign
While fashion is our first love, we understand that clothing production takes a toll on the environment and we want to do our part. As a responsible business, we strive to bring more sustainable, earth-friendly clothing into our collection. All items from the We Care collection are made from 100% recycled polyester. By choosing to wear clothing that is environmentally conscious, not only will you look amazing but also feel great knowing you’re contributing to a greater good.
The exclusive We Care logo represents our commitment to the improvement of the environment and is incorporated into every piece of clothing in this collection made to contribute to this cause.
What is Recycled Polyester?
Recycled polyester is a synthetic fibre based on post-consumer waste, such as plastic bottles and used garments. The raw material is reprocessed and spun into fibres. Using recycled polyester helps us reduce our dependency on petroleum; allowing us to discharge less waste and reduce toxic emissions from incinerators.
That’s not ALL! The signature fabric for our jacket and pants is made from a unique blend of “Dope Dyed Yarn”.
What is Dope Dye Yarn?
Dope Dyed Yarn is a synthetic yarn where the polymer, before the extrusion process, is mixed with dye and the extruded fibres are then coloured. What this means is that fabric made from Dope Dyed Yarn no longer needs to be dyed in large chemical filled lots. About 85% of water used in textile processing goes into dying fabrics. It takes about 20 gallons of water to produce one lot of fabric. So for every lot of fabric we make, we save 17 gallons of fresh water!
By using this material in our collection, we strive to keep plastic bottles out of landfills and conserve the use of fresh water.
Be one of the first to own pieces of this beautiful and sustainable line! To thank you for your generous support, we have put together the below rewards.
1. The Anna tee - Great everyday piece you can use for layering. We made the hem line a little longer so you can move with ease!
2. The Pearl pant - The pants that goes with everything! We added magnetic buttons on the two back pockets so you can have your hands free.
3. The Darla jacket - Look elegant and sexy in this jacket whether you are heading to class or just walking around town. This functional jacket provides light coverage with two side zipper pockets.
4. The complete outfit (size chart included below for reference)
Where Does the Money Go?
The cost of sustainable raw materials is much higher compared to non-sustainable materials due to the lack of demand from apparel companies. Therefore, fabric suppliers have little incentive to invest more of their resources into sustainable raw material product development. With your support, we can help challenge the status quo and increase the use of sustainable materials.
The money raised from the campaign will go towards meeting the very high minimums for taking these products into production. By increasing the volume of orders in the industry, we can contribute to the total demand for sustainable clothing which will lower the overall manufacturing cost (and therefore retail price). This will help make sustainable products more accessible to the mainstream market.
Who We Are
Light Activewear was started by two über-active sisters with a great love for fitness and fashion.
Currently, our team consists of the two of us and our two canine associates. From design, sampling, production to marketing and sales, we execute every aspect of our operation ourselves.
Our clothing is currently being sold in fitness studios across Canada and the U.S., as well as in a number of countries overseas.

How do I pick the size for my reward?
Not to worry! Here is how Indiegogo works: We receive your contact information when you contribute, and after the campaign, we'll reach out to have you confirm the size you'd like.
What is the timeline for receiving my rewards?
Given that the recycled polyester yarn is very specialized, the production for the fabric is much longer. We estimated that we will ship the clothes your way in November 2013. Thank you for your support and patience during the process of building a more sustainable clothing company.
