My campaign is about getting back on my feet from some debilitating setbacks so that I can continue to lovingly document the communities that surround me.

Hello, kind folks! My name is Diane Smithers. I'm an obsessive Vancouver-based photographer of events, places, and faces. Here's my story.

As some of you may have heard, I've had a number of thefts in the past year or so, resulting in the loss of my laptop, drives, camera lenses as well as a significant amount of cash. Things like this do happen, and I have been slowly trying to position myself to replace some of that gear.

A couple of months ago, I experienced another setback when my DSLR camera up and quit. The hope that it was simply a worn out shutter was dashed when Nikon informed me that the unit was beyond repair and needed to be replaced. They have offered me a trade-in credit towards the purchase of a new D800, but the remaining cost is still a huge chunk of change for me right now.

I have health challenges that place very real limitations upon my ability to raise money quickly through work. It's been necessary for me to explore fundraising such as this campaign to make it at all possible to purchase the D800 and replace the stolen items.

Most of you probably know what photography means to me. It's the air that I breathe, hobby, vocation, my connection to something bigger. Suffice it to say that I feel extraordinarily blessed by the magic I'm permitted to witness and sometimes capture. It's been an honor to share this gift with artistic and musical communities and beyond - and a number of artists, dancers, musicians and others have contributed to my perks list. I was gifted more perks than are allowed within the campaign structure so I have had to hold some back - I will add them in as others are claimed, so do check back often!

Your generosity can help make it possible for me to continue to contribute in this way. Your donation, however small, really does add up rather quickly.  I deeply appreciate your support.

Thank you. And a special thanks to Rey Torres for my profile image above.

ps. Just to be clear $6400 is the original amount I was aiming for - the total cost to replace my losses and purchase the new camera - but Indiegogo takes a cut and so I needed to raise my goal to cover that. I've itemized a list and if anyone wants or needs to see it I'm happy to pass it on.
