My name is Ryan Rocquin (Row-can) and I have passion for educating people and bettering their lives through knowledge. As a father, husband, educator and small business owner I know that there is always more to learn and that once in a while I need someone else to teach me. Many things can be found for free today on the internet: how to make bread, how to hang a door, why it is a bad thing when your car engine is out of that black stuff. For other, more complex problems such as canning, managing an urban homestead, or providing your own personal protection, having proper professional instruction is often not just important but, many times, hard to locate. My business idea is a website called Instructor-List which will provide a searchable database for the public to locate those in their area that can provide instruction in the topics that they want to learn about. To ensure the quality of instruction this site would list the qualifications of an instructor, awards, and the disciplines that an instructor in trained in.
For more than a year I have dreamed about creating this site. In November of 2011 I began a podcast, The Gun Runner Podcast (TGRP), to engage the public in an active discussion about firearms, personal defense, preparedness and being positive influences in our communities, states and nation. The podcast also acts as a marketing branch for the other business. The podcast is informational; Instructor-List will be the next step towards bettering the places we live by helping people to become educated in specialized areas so that it might enrich their lives. Also this will provide an active avenue for those who teach as a primary or secondary source of revenue to reach more people. This campaign will create a means for people to find professional instructors in their area.
Funds from this campaign will go directly to fund the construction of the website for this business, the set up of the site’s database and the initial set-up of the sites forum. The total for site construction, graphics design and database construction is $12,000. The majority of this will be going to David Ricketts, a member of the TGRP Audiance. The remainder of the money, approximately $1,000, will go to a graphic designer to create backgrounds, icons, badges and banners for the site. Graphic design will done by Whitney Garber a loyal listener of TGRP. In total he will be creating more than two hundred custom items for the site. In the event that the goal of this campaign is not reached the funds that are raised will go to the project regardless. Though they will not be sufficient to the completion of the site and database whatever is acquired will be utilized in good faith with the donation.
The essence of Instructor-List is to promote self-reliance, not just for those who are looking to be taught. Instructor-List also offers a place for those how teach the skills listed to expand their clientele and reach out to more people who are looking for guidance. Though the inspiration and primary focus of the site at this time is personal defense and firearms training, over the evolution of the business it is hoped that other educational opportunities such as training in homesteading in urban settings, herbal medicine, wilderness medicine, canning, small scale livestock (e.g. goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, geese) guerilla gardening and permaculture will be added, as will others, as instructors ask to join. Through this education it is hoped that one day we might rekindle self reliance within America.
The scope of Instructor-List’s potential is wide reaching. If you are a member of an organization such as the National Rifle Association or Gun Owners of America this cause deserves your consideration too. If you are someone who is actively looking for a way to market your ability as an educator and to be part of a true online community this project is one that deserves your consideration. As someone that believes in the principals of individual freedom whether that is the right to protect your family, produce your own food or even to earn a living teaching others skills, than this project should earn your support.
