Inshallah...."if Allah so wills it".....it's a phrase heard constantly in the Middle East. For the men, women and children of Gaza it has special meaning as no one knows what their tomorrow will bring. To understand the situation in Gaza, the past, present and future of this tiny streach of land needs to be explored. And that is exactly the mission of our documentary and web application.
For the past three years a joint American/Palestinian video crew has been documenting life under siege in the territory. A rough cut of the feature length documentary has been completed; twenty-five preview screenings have been held in Europe and the U.S. to good review, and; we have completed building the foundtion for an interactive web site to follow the story on an on-going basis. Our immediate goal is to return to Gaza to complete production, launch the web site and begin distributing the documentary to schools, universities, community groups and broadcasters throughout the world.
We would like to invite you to join the team by supporting the production and immersing yourself into this challenging story. You can do this by either contributing to our crowd sourcing campaign, or by joining a media delegation we are organizing to travel back to Gaza. To find out more about the trip to Gaza click here.
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE ABOUT GAZA.....WHY SHOULD YOU TRUST THE INSHALLAH MEDIA TEAM. CLICK HERE TO WATCH OUR NEWLY POSTED VIDEO.
It is the mission of this documentary and companion participatory web site to help open a window of understanding, to help facilitate a direct flow of communications free of rhetoric and hyperbole. By expanding the range of knowledge and understanding of this conflict, perhaps public opinion can begin to shift toward a far more opened and even-handed debate.
This proposal outlines the absolute minimum $30,000.00 needed to complete the project through a return production trip to Gaza, final editing and online production. We are looking to you to help us raise this budget through this campaign.
We have been able to arrive at this point in the production process with small donations and in-kind support. We need one final push to finish the documentary and begin its world wide distribution phase.
The documentary chronicles life in Gaza today. Under the unrelenting microscopic surveillance of Israeli forces, residents of Gaza struggle with their political, social and economic future… where and when they can travel, what they can buy in their shops, where and when they can rebuild their homes, what they can export, even the amount of International humanitarian aid that is allowed entry.
We sincerely hope you will consider being a part of this video project....a dynamic tour from the Erez crossing in the north to Rafah on the Egyptian border in the south; visit with shop owners, community residents, artists, musicians, human rights activists, health care professionals, government workers, and political leaders; hear their stories, listen to their position.
The Web Site
There is much planned for the web site that will on-going and ever evolving. Interactive dialogue features will be incorporated into the user interface design to allow for two-way question and answer sessions, discussion groups and the posting of user generated and aggregated content.
The central navigation point will be made up of a matrix with individual story chapters falling under four main categories: Gazans, Aid Organizations, Donor Nations, Conflict Resolution. Placeholders will be created for each projected chapter. As each is taped and edited it will immediately be integrated into the grid along with links to complementary text, photography, and other interactive media components.
Each four-minute video will be told in the first person by individuals directly impacted by the situation that surrounds them. Viewers can choose the order in which they view the individual segments by dragging each segment into an individualized timeline.
When a chapter is chosen, complementary chapters will become highlighted to help guide the viewer through the story.
For viewers who wish to watch a linear story pre-linked sequences will be provided. As these sequences play, prompts will appear with links to complementary media.
Our specific needs
The documentary and web site are at a watershed moment. In order to complete the project to full broadcast standards the following is needed:
Travel and expenses within Gaza, including living expenses, and production fees for local Gazan crew and translators.
Original Palestinian music score and recording studio time within Gaza.
Professional sound mix and enhancement.
Graphics, animations and title sequence.
Color corrections, color matching and image enhancement.
Direct editing expenses including re-digitizing, logging, translations, sub-titling in English and Arabic, edit studio fees.
Web site application authoring and production.
Israel's blockade of Gaza cannot prevent the people of Gaza from expressing themselves to you and the rest of the world.
Human rights, freedom of speech and access to information unfiltered, uncensored, and unbiased cannot be overemphasized in this conflict…please help us to expand the channels of communication.
Shukran...We thank you again for your help and support.
