Biodiversity Software is a french non-profit aiming at providing softwares for researchers so that they can discover new species faster. We only know 10% of the species living on earth.
The vast majority of them are Insects.
But there's still 90% to discover; and Insecta, the insect's encyclopedia will help researchers discover them.
How? It will be a collaborative encyclopedia, with one page per species, with high def pictures.
By having everything they need, from photos to downloadable bibliographical references, researchers will speed up their work!
It will be an iPad (and soon iPhone) and Web app and soon an Android app we hope!
Because it will be a highly visual encyclopedia, it will also be a wonderful educationnal tool.
We're a young team. My co founder is 18, and I (the CEO) am 17. I'm passionate about entomology since childhood, and I discovered and described a new species when I was 15 (Coenochilus hervillardi Estienne, 2011).
We also have a board of advisors including Dr Quentin Wheeler, Vice President of Arizona State University's college of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Director of the International Institute for Species Exploration.

By funding us, you will allow us to build the encyclopedia from basically scratch.
What we need and what you get
Because the development is complex, we need quite a big amount of money: 20 000$. This will be spend on a developer's salary.
And as the money will be moved to Biodiversity Software's bank account, it will only be used to develop the app.
You can also see the perks we're offering.
If we don't reach about entire goal, we'll spend every single dollar on having a developer to try to have a prototype ready as soon as possible, and we'll try to get additional funding from foundations for example.
Contribute to knowledge! Together we can build this incredible encyclopedia. We can build a new kind of Wikipedia, following the vision of XVIIIth century philosophers who built L'Encyclopédie.
You can contribute to this great enterprise, by helping us developing a tool that will help everyone of us discover the wonders of nature in a whole new way.
Other ways you can help
You can help us with as little as 1$!
If you can't help us getting funded, that's fine! But if you like our project, you can use the sharing tools of Indiegogo and tell your friends about this project.
