Thanks to you and all your contributions we have met our initial goal!! I feel so blessed to have such a strong network of supporters that feel a connection to Raquel’s story as strongly as I do! Your outpouring of love has truly warmed my heart and made me feel such a strong sense of community.

But, we are not quite there yet. As many of you know, movies are expensive to produce. Unfamiliar to crowdfunding, I set a modest goal of $10,000, not knowing I had such incredible supporters. This initial target will go towards the final three weeks of editing and sound design and mixing.

But a film needs other important elements to be completed and showcased at its best. These include additional original compositions that can bring to life Raquel’s story, as well as color correction and the digital output. Thus, the cost to complete the movie is closer to $20,000.

I am Gabriela Böhm, an award-winning documentary filmmaker.  I make films about ordinary people who courageously stand up and fight for their rights and the rights of others.

In a time where no one dared to speak, Raquel alone defied her oppressors. 

My new film is about an ordinary woman — Raquel Liberman — whose story was buried and forgotten. Raquel was a victim of sex trafficking in South America in the early 20^th century. The film traces her journey from wife and mother to exploited woman to — in the end — a defiantly free woman.

Although In Raquel’s Footsteps is not about me, it embodies many elements of who I am.  I, too, have had to find the courage to speak up. I am a rape survivor.

This film has been my passion for years.  So much so that I’ve used my own money to finance its research, production and some postproduction. Now, I am broke. 

If Raquel’s story resonates with you, please make sure her voice is heard.

My goal is $10,000. The film is almost complete, the rough editing done. Your donations towards our goal will enable us to finalize editing, as well as finish audio and color correction, produce the digital master, and print the first run of DVDs.
