Hi, I'm Gregory Mikell. I have been acting for more than 15 years in theatre and film and writing for the past 10. I consider myself a craftsman. I started acting because I love the power of words and the never-ending learning curve of humanities history to be told and shared through the media of film and stage.
I received my B.A. degree in theatre from Jacksonville State University of Alabama and classical studies at The National Shakespeare Conservatory. Later, some MFA studies at The Actors Studio Drama School in New York City.
This campaign is very important and personal to me as its a compilation of some of the most current and relevant experiences of racial profiling that I and perhaps many viewers of my campaign may have experienced themselves.
The screenplay came about as the result of a conversation that I had with one of my closest friends. I was going on about a racial profiling incident that happened involving a cop stopping me on the street outside of my apartment building. As I lamented my friend sympathized, but suggested I find a way to deal with my frustration. As an artist, I decided to write it in my journal and give it some thought. Thus, here we are.
Your contributions will help not only us with the production cost of completing the film, but an even greater contribution will be made to society by asking our local and global communities to take a look at ourselves and ask if we are seeing the best reflection of who we can be as a society.
What We Need & What You Get
We will donate 5% of all donations back to charity as we believe in the principle of giving back. A list of our favorite charities can be found on the company site at www.acclaimtheatricals.com. We also encourage you to sign-up for our newsletter while exploring the site and like our Facebook and other social media links to help spread the word. You'll also find a more extensive list of "Perk" apparel/Items that you're entitled to for your support.
The $7,000 budget will be spent on equipment rental, hiring a minimal yet professional crew. This includes a director, cinematographer, lightning, sound, editor, producer, marketing expense to raise awareness of the project's importance.
If we don't reach out target goal your contributions will still be used toward production of the film. We will simply do as all indie filmmakers do, become even more creative and make hard decisions as to what scene (s) can be cut to keep the integrity of the film.
