ilumi nation!

As springtime arrives, the weather is heating up here in Texas and so is ilumi. We’ve been heads down on development the past few weeks, and it’s time for a long overdue update on the world’s most intelligent lights.

To share some key wins, we’ve finalized the mechanical models and hardware for both the large and small ilumis. They look awesome and are true to the initial concept. We’re also thinking we’ll be able to pump even more brightness out of these babies than previously thought. Check out the pictures of the 3D printed small ilumi below. It’s awesome to look at our previous prototypes next to our current prototypes and realize how far ilumi has come. Right now, we’ve placed orders for components and materials to build 30 of each type over the next few weeks that we’ll use these for testing and certification.

It does look like the timeline to get ilumi in your hands will be delayed a bit. Of course, we’re disappointed about the delay but ultimately we want to ensure you’ll have a great experience right out of the box. More to come on timeline soon, so try to stay patient and keep the faith.

Also, thanks to all of you who confirmed your orders and the 213 that took the time to answer our questions. Lots of great insights that will help us make ilumi better for you.

$60,000 raised, 700 iLumis, 35 countries, and 400 contributors. It’s hard to explain how amazing it feels to share your passion and vision and have people from all over the world embrace it. We are so grateful to all of you for contributing your hard earned money to a belief that light should do more than just help you see. A belief in iLumi.

It started off with our vision, but you all are a part of this now. The iLumi Nation has been born and together we are going to light up the world! Together, we will redefine what lighting is and what it can be. We will create amazing lighting experiences, and we are going to do it responsibly. Already, your contributions and use of iLumi will offset about 600,000 kilowatt hours of energy, the equivalent of saving 1000 barrels of oil from being consumed.

Hope your 2013 is off to a great start. A couple things to quickly share:

1) Check out http://ow.ly/h0dZ9, iLumi was part of a lcoal news interview for a Dallas based incubator called Tech Wildcatters. The iLumi prototypes look awesome on TV.

2) Make sure you add shipping charges. For most perks, you’ll need to add the appropriate amount for shipping. If you forgot, simply come back to the campaign, look under the appropriate perk, and make a new contribution for the shipping amount. Shipping charges are per order, so for those of you that are super-awesome and have made a prior contribution that includes shipping you don’t need to add shipping again.

Remember, we need your help to grow the nation so help spread the word.
