I am going to fight the Russian’s in Poland from 29 April to 3 May 2012.
I will be a part of a Team of 32 other Americans who are forming a Team USA for the first time to compete in an international event that has been happening the past several years called the Battle of Nations. The Battle of the Nations is an extraordinary annual international full-contact medieval armored combat competition in which the greatest swordfighters from over 16 Nations (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Romania, Australia, Denmark, USA Ireland, Canada, Moldova, France, Belgium and England) participating nations face each other in individual and team combat to determine the World Championship team.
With a 2 year old and a wife out of work it is just a bit beyond my reach to do on my own
I've been asked to join this team because I am a soldier who knows how to follow orders and more importantly look out for my fellows on the Battlefield, it’s how I've been trained my whole life as a military officer.
This year should be my only shot at this as I am planning on retiring from the military after 23 years of Active Service, starting a new career with a wife and toddler will not give me the time to be a part of an event like this in the near future.
We are funding this effort out of our own pockets though we are always on the lookout for sponsors.
The event will be from 29 April until 3 May. Airfare and Hotel will be around $1420
transportation to event every day and food as well.
At least I am trying to. It will take a lot more funds then I currently have to do so.
Fell free to donate funds to a piece of my armor and I will list your name next to it.
The current cost of my armor is $3920.

There will be people patrolling the event who will be checking to see if our garb is correct. We have decided that the following period clothing will be needed. We are hoping we can get cloth donated for numes 4-7. I will mostly likely order 1-3 from Historic Enterprises.
1. 2 white linen undershirts (ordered).
2. 2 pair of brais (ordered)
3. 2 pair of hosen (ordered)
4. one bocksten tunic http://forest.gen.nz/Medieval/articles/ ... ksten.html
5. one cotehardie
6. one herjolfsnes #63 http://historiskdrakt.wordpress.com/200 ... nes-63-64/
7. one hood.
My clothing team lead stating the following reasons recommending the above clothing kit.
"With this basic kit I can mix and match and flesh out 4 to 5 days of clothing. Additionally, this will be the smallest kit I need that will take up the least amount of space for luggage. The bocksten tunic is the 14c tee shirt of the man and the everyday wear. Cotehardie is for your fancy pageantry and I'd recommend in a brocade of something fancy. The herjolfsnes can be worn alone or as an over coat on top of the other 2, so it will replace a cloak (will not need a cloak). it can be worn closed with a belt or open as a coat. The hood will be extra warmth and wearing with and without adds the extra accessory to make you have more fashion looks out of a basic wardrobe.
I'd recommend the tunic in linen, the cotehardie in brocade, and the herjolfsnes in wool and dagged. Look up images from the "hunting book of Gaston Phoebus" for images.
Id recommend one red item, one green item, and one blue item, plus the brocade. 2 pairs of the hose in two different colors so you can mix them up. red green and blue were the most common colors we see in the medieval manuscripts and they combined them freely (their color sense was different than ours)."
The Cost of remaining Weapons will be $350. I will be taking a sword, a mace and a hand and a half sword. I have a mace being donated as a gift from Daniel Stool and a collection is being taken up for the "Black Star Sword" by Casey Weed. The remaining weapon should come from the Baltimore Knife and Sword Company who is giving the team a discount. (http://www.baltimoreknife.com).
We had the first National Practice in Springfield, IL from 16-19 Feb 2012 (see flyer). The ticket cost $323 and the room will be $96. The confernce fee for this will be $50 and meals will be around $100.
To date this has been dominated by the Russians, Team USA is trying to start our own domination of the sport. Our website is www.usaknights.org. I am there as Robert Dionisio. I’ve set up a paypal account under firstname.lastname@example.org for folks who are willing to help more directly. While I have been doing this sort of thing for the past 23 years my kit just isn’t up to what these guys are dishing out (see links below) updating my soft kit and armor so that I don’t get hurt to badly as well as the trip to Eastern Europe and training will cost me between $8-12k.
My armor and protective gear will be $4100 alone. While my wife supports this and is willing to use up our savings for this I just can’t see doing it without help. I can’t deplete out savings just for this effort at this time. Transportation of myself and gear and Lodging to Poland where the event should be held will cost $2-3K. Safe weapons for this sport will be $1.5K and new clothing will be another $1 k. The costs are pretty steep for doing this the first time.
Here are some youtube links on what I am seeking help in.
TV series "Battle of the Nations", episode 1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifVBhKmBCt8
Any donations over my goal will be donated to Team USA
Thank you for your help and Support.
Thanks Bob Dionisio
