The gale force winds from Hurricane Sandy did severe damage to our historic barn. Originally built as a dairy barn in the 1840's, this beautiful old building has survived the test of time, until "Frankenstorm" hit us with powerful winds. The entire corner support, siding and pieces of the roof wer etorn off; doors smashed, and structural integrity compromised. Too many barns have been destroyed around the area as small farms fall into disarray - we intend to bring these old buildings back to life. Help us save this barn, and preserve the beauitful farming heritage of this area!
What We Need & What You Get
We need at least $25,000 to perform basic structural, siding and roof repairs. Additional funds will help put doors back on, and perform ohter basic foundation repairs (the shifting of the timbers/roof caused some stone work to be destroyed). If enough is raised, we will even be able to stain/paint the entire barn, ensuring it endures many more harsh winters, and is a safe warm place for barn animals.
In return for your donations, we will make this beautiful building available to you for photographs, whether for personal pictures (senior pictures, wedding shots, anniversary moments, tourism). All we ask is that you make an appointment with us in advance, as this is a live barn that (if repaired) is going to be used for animals.
The ImpactHurricane Sandy impacted a lot of people in various ways, and we don't want to take anything away from those with more pressing needs. However, if you love old farm buildings that reflect our American heritage, and want to preserve them (and it won't take money from others in greater need), then please help!
Other Ways You Can Help
Even if you can't contribute, or choose to help hurricane victims in other ways (we recognize that a historic barn pales in comparison to those who need food or shelter!), please pass the word and share it with your friends. Small businesses can make donations as well (check with your accountant for tax benefits), and any word of mouth assistance will help with this preservation.Thank you for considering different ways that you can help Hurricane victims - even if its not us, please find a need and help them out!
