We used a blooper video because the girls were just SO CUTE!!, My apologies for my mess up at the end.
**This is our last week, and a grand opening is no longer possible. We had to repair more then we expected**
We own Skin Alternative, an upscale tattoo studio. Troy is the artist/owner with over 14 years experience. Kate is the accountant/shop manager/marketing designer, etc. We also have an employee, Joseph Bawden who has 3 years experience and is growing both professionally and talent wise every day. We are family oriented and based on creating personal connections and a professional experience. We have been in business for 4 years. We had our studio in Hillside, NJ and due to a dispute with our landlord it was in our family's best interest to close down and vacate the property.
We are now setting up our studio in the town of Scotch Plains,NJ. Getting our shop set up in Scotch Plains is going to be the turning point for our business, and our family. Where we were fighting a deteriorating building and area, we will now be in a legitimate location with higher traffic and more customers.
We are the first, and only allowed tattoo studio in Scotch Plains and we believe we are a great studio for the town. We are above the bar with talent and individual attention. We treat our customers like family. Since we are the first and only, we had to go before a zoning board to get special approval. We faced the following costs.
$2,000 Lawyer, $3,000 Planner, $1,800 Zoning fees
We had some money saved up from when our business was open, but it was not nearly enough to cover these costs and pay the bills at our house and cover construction to open the new studio.
This is where we need your help. Construction is costing us $5,000-$6,000 and we do not have the money available to cover that AND setup and have a grand opening. A grand opening is important to us to let the town know what we are all about and to provide our own merchandise to give out. We want to reassure them that they made a good decision allowing us to be in their town. We are not your typical "tattoo shop" and we want to world to know it.
We are offering perk packages ranging from $2 which gets you a high quality vinyl weather-resistant sticker and a personally hand-written thank you note from Kate and the girls, to $400 for a gift card valued at $500 plus the sticker and thank you. Packages include body jewelry, clothing, and various merchandise.
If we do not reach our goal, we are still going to open the Scotch Plains Studio, but funding would be very tight for ourselves and our home.
We truly feel that setting up our studio in Scotch Plains would give the residents of the town a chance to get their tattoos local and invest their money back into their community. We always have donated to the local police, fire and school fundraisers. We are looking into setting up space for local artists to show off some of their artwork through a "local artist of the month" program. And we will also be showcasing some additional artwork from artists we know.
If we are blessed enough to raise more then we are asking, then any additional money will go towards giving back whether it be through sponsorships or local events.
If you can't donate, please spread the word. Every little bit helps.
