We are Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits, a satiric acoustic duo from the San Francisco Bay Area consisting of Dan Abbott and Corbett Redford. We started in 1995, and though were at first dismissed as merely a novelty band, we kept writing, performing, recording and touring, all while putting on free underground festivals (Geekfest) with our friends and releasing all our records on our own DIY label, S.P.A.M. Records. We broke up in 2000, but reformed in 2009 and immediately began writing again. 2010 saw the release of our album F (on SF-based label Silver Sprocket) and we decided to film music videos for each of it's 13 songs. The final track of F, a song called Life is Excellent, has touched many of our fans and friends, and we want to make an appropriately awesome music video; fun, ridiculous, tragicomic, and maybe even inspiring. You can listen to the song here: LISTEN! This will be the finish line for our ambitious video project, and the final track on a DVD version of the album. We intend to film the music video in December, with comedian/director Alex Koll and an ENORMOUS cast and assorted crews of talented friends, fans and random strangers. This short film is planned to be over 8 minutes long (long for a music video!) and will feature many stunning visuals, stunts and a handful of surprise guests. We have taken on ambitious projects all our lives. Weve bitten off more than we can chew, and then chewed it somehow and made amazing music and art. The role of the artist is to push the limits of what is possible. Not to show how awesome we are, but to give others hope and inspiration, to encourage others to put a little more fantastic into their everyday lives.
When we finish this video, itll cap off a hyper-ambitious shoestring-budget video album project (so far, mostly paid for by odd jobs, benefit shows and donated labor) that has our fans rooting for us, and has shown other bands and artists that making DIY art doesnt have to mean low quality or sub-par. It means not waiting around for a sugar momma to dump cash in our pockets, but forging ahead, being flexible and creative, and collaborating with other artists who have more talent than cash.We want to inspire people (including ourselves) to do even more amazing things.
We have a projected budget ceiling of $12,000 for the 'Life Is Excellent' music video. Thats a lot of money from where were sitting, but we want to make the best music video EVER. Well be calling in a LOT of favors in an attempt to keep things under that amount. Any funds we raise from this campaign that are left over will go toward completing the rest of the videos (of which 7 are either complete or in post-production!) on the DVD, which will also include live footage, comedy sketches, interviews, and other random stuff.
We can do this. We have 120 days to reach our funding goal and we can't reach it without your help! If you can't help financially, perhaps you could spread the word to as many people as you can about this exciting project. There are many ways you can help make this project happen.
Were not joking about making great art, and were pushing ourselves to do even more amazing stuff. This video will be the culmination of many years of work, and when you see it, youll know you helped bring it to life. If youve got $5 you can spare, or $1000, well make the most of every penny, and well make it worth your while.
