Let's Get Tony to New York!
At 56, Tony Walker has spent nearly half a century participating in The UP Series (check out the clip above!), and it is his dream to travel from London to New York for the U.S. premiere of the latest film. Tony hopes to introduce America to 56 UP in person and, of course, "bring a little Cockney spirit to The Big Apple," and he needs your help to make this happen.
In 1964, 7-year-old East Ender Tony was one of a group of 14 children interviewed for the landmark British television program, Seven UP. Based on the Jesuit maxim “Give me the child until he is seven and I will give you the man,” the concept was to interview children from diverse backgrounds from all over England, asking them about their lives and their dreams for the future. Every seven years since, renowned director Michael Apted, a researcher for Seven UP, has been back to talk to Tony and the others, examining the progression of their lives.
All the money raised in this campaign will go directly to Tony to cover his travel expenses (flight & hotel). We have all sorts of UP-related perks to offer (see right), plus some super special items like IFC Center memberships and tea with Tony himself at New York's beloved British eatery, Tea & Sympathy.
If you're a fan of The UP Series, Cockney accents, documentaries, jockeys or dreamers, please consider making a contribution. Each and every donation is greatly appreciated, and even if you can't contribute financially it would be enormously helpful to have you share this campaign with your friends. Please help spread the word!
