After getting hit hard by Sandy, this family suffered the unimaginable loss of Vernon Hankins – teacher, coach, artist, father, husband, friend.

If you've stumbled on this page, you are likely a former or current art student, a field hockey player, perhaps even a former basketball player, or had an art class at D.A.D. Art Studio. Maybe you just walked the halls of BTHS, or know a member of the Hankins family.

If you are lucky enough to have been any of these, you are one of many who have been touched by Mr. Hankins. This campaign was started by his group of '02-'06 field hockey players looking to give back to honor the man who served as a mentor to so many, with unparalelled integrity and a killer sense of humor.

For those who don't know the whole story, the Hankins' suffered the wrath of Hurricane Sandy - cars destroyed, house flooded, and a large tree uprooted and fallen in their yard. Still working to rebuild their home, on Thanksgiving morning Mr. Hankins was working on removing the fallen tree from the roots. The tree shifted and collapsed on him, and despite neighbors' efforts to free him and the medics' attempts to save him, he tragically and suddenly left this world.

We are asking those who knew Mr. Hankins, or his wife and 3 children who are left to rebuild their home without him, to please show your support through a donation. Any amount to honor this truly caring, unique, and irreplaceable soul; your donation will go directly to the family to support them through this devastating time.

**Update: Thank you everyone who has already contributed for helping us meet our official goal so quickly. Please continue to help spread the word, we have a secret unofficial goal so keep on sharing!!

If you are unable to donate, but want to help: please share this with your friends and encourage others to pass along! Simply helping to spread the word is much appreciated.

We also encourage you to share your memories of Mr. Hankins in the comment section. He motivated and mentored so many of us, we know there are plenty of laughs and smiles out there to uplift us all in the face of this loss.
