The University of Southern Mississippi quidditch team was founded less than a year and a half ago, in October 2011, and in that time has progressed from a team with no wins as recently as October 2012 to winning fourth place in the South Regional Tournament on March 3, 2013, and qualifying for a spot at the International Quidditch Association’s World Cup VI! We’ve proven ourselves in our region, and now we are ready to show the world.
We are a very dedicated team, spending several hours in practice every week developing and fine tuning our unique and effective play strategies, capitalizing on each player’s individual strengths. Our team members have different levels of athleticism, but a characteristic we all have in common is our determination to play hard and give every match 100%.
We’ve done a lot of travelling for tournaments this semester, every two weeks for a while, but this one is the furthest yet – over 600 miles from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Kissimmee, Florida! This tournament will cost our team at least $2000, and we need your help to do it! We need to be able to pay for our hotel rooms, gas, and meals. In addition, with this and other fundraisers, we’re also trying to raise money to buy new, real jerseys to wear while we compete at the World Cup – it’s important to show that we’re a team to be taken seriously. If we reach this campaign’s goal of $1000, it will go a long way toward curtailing our out of pocket expense.
Any amount you are able to donate, no matter how big or small, is appreciated more than you can imagine, and we’ve tried to set up our perks to show anybody who supports us just how much it means to us! If you can, please donate! If you can’t, you can still help by spreading the word—tell your friends and family about us.
