2013 has started with some heartbreaking news for our family...
Over the weekend, our beautiful 7-year-old calico, Pumpkin, started showing signs of severe eye distress. Her left eye started to weep, then started to bulge out of its socket. A visit to the vet this afternoon confirmed our fears... the eye had been blinded by glaucoma. Worse, in order to save her - and keep the eye from rupturing, causing significant pain and suffering (for her and for us) - the eye would have to be removed as soon as possible.
Due to long-term unemployment, the holidays, and recent unforeseen expenses (like engine replacement for one of our vehicles), we don't have the wherewithal to pay for the surgery, leaving us with only two other alternatives: 1) do nothing, and risk severe pain and eventual rupture of the eye and probable need for euthanasia; or 2) have her euthanized now.
The cost of euthanasia: $0.00
Cost to remove the eye: about $900.00 (estimate below)
She's only 7 years old and is the family's favorite feline, so there have been many tears and lots of mind-wracking over the last several hours...
It is through the suggestion of friends that I come to the IndieGoGo community to help us save Pumpkin, one of the most precious members of our family.
Thank you everyone!!! :-)
Here's the estimate for Pumpkin's surgery, received from the vet today...
