I'm a writer out of Redding, California who has always loved superheroes. Being transgender as well has also made me gravitate towards creating stories with LGBT themes. As such, I wanted to create a superhero universe that celebrates LGBT (and especially transgender) superheroes while not making this everything about them.
There's a whole universe of superheroes involved. Not all fall in the LGBT community, but all have their own intriguing aspects and character quirks. Whether it's the reality-hopping superhero team who visit a new locale each storyline with great potential for varied stories, the team started as the center of a reality show who navigate the tricky waters of public scrutiny and executive meddling, the team of the world's greatest heroes banded together to fight the threats an individual hero can't face alone, or others, the stories should be entertaining to many. Genres within the superhero umbrella that are touched on are fantasy, science fiction, horror, mystery, romance, comedy, and more.
This project will help bring a universe that, from the outset, is committed to diversity and strong storytelling. Of all the LGBT superhero comics out there, none are created in a line of books with an overarching universe that ties everything together from the outset. This project aims to do that, to bring an intriguing, lasting superhero universe to the LGBT community and their allies.
What We Need & What You Get
My stated goal is $3000. This is worked out from the fact that the first month I would like to launch 29 books, and this is rounding up from $100 per book (rounding up so I can accomodate for fees and just to have a little more for artists who want more). This may not be much to pay artists, but it's a working base rate, with hopes of going higher. And all of this money will go to the artists, who will rightfully deserve their compensation.
Should you fund this project, you can get some awesome perks! Besides the signed issues and personalized covers and all that, you can also appear in an issue! And it's not just a background cameo. Should you give enough money, you can have a story dedicated to your character, either as a backup or, maybe, a full issue! It all depends on how much you give, and the results should not disappoint.
If the goal is not reached, I will still soldier forward. There will still be issues created. There will still be gifts given to funders. It's just that there will not be as many books at least not on a frequent basis.
On the flipside, if the funds are exceeded, that means more money to pay artists, which can land some of the more elusive ones, as well as the means to fund further issues.
This project may be ambitious, but it is designed to create a whole line of superhero books, with the hope to go further--to see widespread recognition for characters often marginalized in mainstream comics. It is also driven by writing and the idea that no character should have their sexuality of gender as their only character point, and to display every character as having multiple facets to their being.
