Kids get out for the summer and the first thing they do is reach for the video games or plop themselves down in front of the TV. Before you know it, they are screaming "I'm bored" and all the knowledge they learned in school all year is flying out the window. This year I want it to be different.
My name is Kathleen and I am the mom of four boys ages 12-7. Now that my boys are older, I want to take them on a cross country camping road trip to visit some of the nation's best National Parks and sites. I want them to get up and get moving while learning about science and the history of this nation. I homeschool my 11 year old because he has dyslexia and we are currently studying about the places we will visit.
I also run the blog LifeWith4Boys.com, where I will be documenting the entire trip live from the road. My hope is that we can convince other family's how easy it is to get up and go on a camping trip with your family. I think there is often a negative stigma regarding camping and tent camping in particular, but it can be fun, clean and enjoyable! Every day, I will feature pictures, videos and even recipes that we have cooked on our adventures across the United States on my site.
Our route is shown on the photo above and includes 15 stops in 10 different states over the course of 38 days. We will drive our van and camp in a tent the whole way. Some of the campgrounds have electricity and others will be primitive and we have opted for National Park campgrounds where available. This is a no frills trip, full of spectacular views and chance to see amazing things that TV shows can't hold a candle to.
All money raised will go towards paying for either the $1,200 worth of gas it will take to drive the early 5,500 miles of this trip or towards paying the $900 camping fees at each of the 15 different stops. There are also fees for one cave tour, admission to Taos Pueblos and National Park entrence fees included in that budget as well, but that's it. That is what the money we raise will go towards. If we don't meet our goal, any money earned will go towards paying for as many of these fees as possible.
Everyone who helps us reach our goal will have my sincere gratitude and a feature in the thank-you sponsor post that will be featured on my site. There will be other thank-you gifts based on donation levels, including personally addressed post cards from the different locations we visit, personalized thank-you videos and special features on LifeWith4Boys.com. I realize that there are more pressing needs then this family trip out there, so if you decide to give to those instead of me, I definitely understand. This is not a life or death situation, just something that I want to do as a mother to build memories with my boys.
