Who am I?
Hello! My name is Dina, I'm seventeen, and I need your help to stay in college.
I have been attending Hampshire College since the Fall of 2011, and I am planning on double majoring in Psychology and Finance. But, due to the financial recession everyone is suffering from, I have had a lot of difficulty paying the tuition fee, and if I don't pay I will have to leave. Which is why I am here. I am working as much as I can, so is my single parent Mother, but no matter how much we have been working, no matter how many other ways we have tried to come up with the necessary money to pay for the tuition, we haven't come up with the 15,000 dollars that I need. I can't take out a loan because I don't fulfill the requirements, neither does my mother. I already have a very generous scholarship, but it unfortunately isn't enough. So I now turn to you, for your help for me to keep on living my dream.
A little about me, and my situation:
I can easily say that the best thing that has ever happened to me was being accepted at Hamphire College. And here is why:
I was accepted at Hampshire at sixteen, and in order for me to go to college at that age, I had to complete an almost torturous year. I completed grade 11 and 12 in half a year, but that's not all. In my overachieving haze, in addition to that I chose to switch from the American systen and follow the British system, and to take additional courses I did not need to take in order to graduate. By the end of the year, saying that I was frazzled and burned out is an understatement.
That was definitely not a pleasurable year, a year that ended in me literally crying in relief. Why did I do this, indeed?
Before going through that I lived in Dubai. The misconception that everyone who lives in Dubai is rich is just that, a misconception. And with the terrible recession that everyone is suffering from, my family reached that fearful point. The day in which my single parent, my hardworking Mother could not pay the $8000 the cheapest acceptable school in Dubai cost for me, the $16000 it cost in total for my sister and me. And so I searched the net, trying to find another option, an option that did not cost 16,000 dollars. And that is how I ended up graduating at sixteen. Not because I wanted to speed up the process. But because it was either that, or nothing.
And then, the light, the bright bright light at the end of the tunnel. Hampshire College. I was accepted to Hampshire College! Everything was suddenly better. And when I received a very generous scholarship, things were not only better, but brighter, and greener, and wonderful for the first time in many years. I had always dreamed of going to college in an American college, but this was much better than that. Hampshire College was everything I wanted. A close knit community, a learning environment where you learn by doing. An exceptional education. It was so much better than I ever dreamed of. And it was right there, for me to grab and hold on to.
But now, my mother's business is about to become successful. She's about to have the break of her life. But the process is taking a very long time, has taken a very long time. And now my wonderful college is sending me email after email, telling me that if I don't finish the payment for this past Spring semester, and if I don't make the payment for this coming Fall semester by September, I won't be able to return. And those payments total to the amount of 15,000 dollars. Money that I don't have. And, honestly, if I can't go there this September, I will be on the street.
And right now I am watching my dream teer precariously on the edge of a cliff.
I worked extremely hard to get to this point. As I said, being accepted to college was easily the best thing that ever happened to me. And now, I worry endlessly about the possibility of not being able to go back. And that is why I now ask you for your help. I am doing the best I can, but 15,000 dollars is a lot of money. I am not even expecting that much, but 7,000 dollars would cover the Spring semester fee, and would help me gain more time to make the Fall payment of 8,000 dollars.
What We Need & What You Get
I need 7,000 dollars to pay for college. In total I actually owe 15,000 dollars. From this money, 8,600 goes towards the tuition, and 6,400 towards the college to pay for my housing. But, the 7,000 dollars I am hoping to raise will go towards the fee of the past Spring Semestre, of which 3,800 will go towards the tuition, and 3,200 will go towards the housing fees.
What I can give you for your help is listed on the sidebar, but in addition to that each one of you will have my utmost gratitude. For going out of your way to help me get back on mine.
By helping me with my campaign, you would be helping me obtain an education, and farther down the line, you would be helping me get ahead in the world. And if you want to go farther than that, I am studying to become a Clinical Psychologist. I want to help people. And, in a way, by helping me you would be helping the people I one day hope to help.
Other Ways You Can Help
This is a difficult time for everyone, and I understand that you may not be in a position to help me by donating. But thank you for stopping by, for taking the time to read my message. And if you can, please spread it around. Another way to help me is by helping me reach more people.
Thank you so very much.
With my utmost gratitude,
