And then there was a Little Fawn
My name is Jessica Deleskey, I started Little Fawn Organics (originally The Littlest Forest) about 4 years ago. I wanted to provide parents and their babies with handmade, organic cloth diapers that were affordable. Most of the mainstream cloth diapers on the market are made with synthetic fabrics, which can be irritating to a baby's gentle skin. There aren't many options out there for organic cloth diapers made with all-natural fibers, so I wanted to fill that niche.
I am starting this campaign so I can bring Little Fawn Organics to the next level. I am passionate about helping my local economy to thrive, and I want small businesses to succeed. The more small businesses that are successful, the more small businesses there will continue to be.
Little Fawn Organics is currently limited in the amount of products we can produce, making them more expensive for the consumer. We want to provide our products at a lower price point so they can be more affordable for everyone, and we would love the ability to have enough resources to start a program within our company to provide products to families in need.
This campaign is important to me for several reasons: The impact that disposable diapers have on the earth is a great one. I want to continue spreading the word and creating an easy to use, all-natural product that lessens the environmental impact so all of our babies have a beautiful world in which to grow up. I want to help small businesses and create jobs in a great work environment that will pay a living wage.
What We Need & What You Get
There are several steps involved in reaching our ultimate goal, which is a local small business that will create local jobs with living wages (in a family friendly setting. I want my employees to be able to bring their children to work with them so all of their income doesn't have to go to daycare.)
Step #1 is to procure funding for the necessary equipment and supplies:
- Commercial grade serger. This will help us to make an even more professionally finished product in a shorter amount of time.
- Wholesale fabric. Right now we are paying retail prices for our fabric supplies. This is not economical for a business to succeed. In order to lower the cost of the product and have money to hire an employee (or several) we will need to save money by making wholesale fabric orders.
- One to two more sewing machines. We need a place for our employees to work!
- Materials to build a work area for multiple people. We're really thrifty when it comes to stuff like this, so we will be able to salvage many materials and turn them into a spectacular work area.
