Hi, I'm Glenn Nuotio, a Newfoundland born piano-player, songwriter, and performer.

 I've been playing and collaborating in Canada in different ways as a solo artist or with my band between Newfoundland, Halifax, Montreal and Ontario, from the Ship Inn, The Nickel Film Festival, Halifax Pride or Montreal to shows in Toronto, The Ottawa International Writers Festival, WestFest, Magnetic North Theatre Festival and also at Ottawa Bluesfest. It’s been an lucky, incredible, inspiring constant struggle of a time with no end in sight, and this year, in 2012, well, I turned 40.

 Maybe 40 is the "Old Age of Youth" as Victor Hugo wrote , who knows, but  I’m fortunate to have a lot of love in my life, including friends that make up a caring and very impressive music community .

However, I need YOUR help so I can fund and realize afford and realize a creative dream and a solid professional opportunity waiting for me this year: 

In September 2012, I begin recording my elusive debut full-length album here in Ottawa with Bova Sound Studios. I’ll be writing , arranging, singing and hiring some of my favourite voices to sing with me while collaborating with some of the best musicians I know, all under the direction of this production team that is one of the best in Canada. Honest.

Or, as Feist told CBC Radio’s Alan Neal backstage this month winning where she won the 2012 Juno Award for Artist of the Year: "Bova Studios saved the day on this album” .

Bova Sound, run by father and son team Phillip Victor Bova and Phillip Shaw Bova, is a studio in Ottawa. They have played or helped create hundreds of records over the past 30 years. They mastered Feist's last record, Metals, and they've shaped the sound on records by other artists including Socalled, John Lavery, Stars, Rich Aucoin, Lisa Poushinsky, Land Of Talk, Bell Orchestre, Kim Barlow, The Murder Plans, and Bahamas. My goal is to raise at least $5000 by May 1, 2012 to cover the studio production costs for first week of recording in September as I wait to hear back about the grant applications and continue writing and arranging

Leading up to this summer, I'll work with my band members ( percussion, cello, double bass, harp, guitar, electronics, do live shows to test out our arrangements, rehearse and get ready for pre-production and then we'll bring them into the Studio staring the week of September 23rd! )

I also have a great team of professional musicians lined up ready to be hired to add to my songs. Some of them are band members already , some of them are new, some are amazing nationally-known guest players and vocalists.

The money raised by this campaign will go to paying for these costs. I'm inspired and humbled by the team of musicians I call friends who have agreed to be part of this recording.

I've also applied for funding from the City of Ottawa so far to partially fund the recording of the album as well. I'll continue writing grants this spring for other funding and campaign hard through IndieGoGo and online to tell everyone about this project.

I won't know until at least June about the City of Ottawa and other grants, but I started talking with collaborators and I go into the studio the week of September 23rd!

I'll be able to spend more time in the studio working with co-producer Mike Dubue , make the album more carefully and creatively with more studio time, and I'll maybe also record with some musician friends in Newfoundland who were the first ones to support my songs.
