Simply put, ArtsRiot destroys apathy.
And we need your help.
We've invested all our money and a boatload-and-a-half of time in the last year to build a virtual space to engage the community. Now, we're taking over the old VW autoshop in the South End Arts District to physically solidify our bridge between individuals and community groups, and truly begin to increase access to community activity and inspire action.
We're close, but we need a hand hammer out the rough patches. So, we're asking our friends and family, our neighbors, the Burlington community and beyond to support our dream. Artists have loved our website and friends often drop notes of appreciation under our door - and this makes our hearts tingle - but we're looking for some funds to to finish building up our gallery.
And we're turning to you.
Your financial contribution will allow us to complete the transformation of raw concrete and piles of dust into a center of energy, action, engagement and participation. It's not just another gallery – white walls, track lights and wine events - ArtsRiot.com is the sexy facade of a deeper mission rooted in education, social justice, and ecological design. We believe that through the mediums of art, food, and music we can help build a more engaged community and a sustainable future.
We've chosen a fixed financing plan for three reasons.
1.) We really need all the money.
2.) We want make sure that the essence of crowdsourcing shines through. To us, that means support from a large number of people who all help with the completion of a fully formed project.
3.) Optimism. Really, belief in our community and that our work has real value for our community.
Your financial contributions will directly go to the following projects:
- Completing the bathroom.
- Paying for the completion of electrical wiring.
- Building a screen for our projector.
- Tightening the building envelope.
- Increasing efficiency through more insulation.
- Final construction of our local art merchandise shop.
- Final construction of our public lounge.
- Construction of an air lock foyer for less heat loss.
- Construction of communal storage area.
- Design and initial conceptualization of sculpture park and edible garden.
To the right of your screen you'll find the great perks you'll receive for supporting us. Read below for more info and some pictures.
Your contribution directly impact the quality of services we can provide the community. By getting us over this hump in construction we can rechannel our energy towards our goal. Rather than struggling through the final stages of the build out, bleeding cash and energy throughout, we can engage people earlyon in our existence and show them first hand how their help is returned in the form of community events, free entertainment, interesting conversations and most of all by proving the power of organizing people.
We're not reinventing the wheel. We understand that. However the wheel we've designed rolls a bit different then any we've encountered before. As a close friend once phrased to me, "rise to return" best describes the new paradigm we're trying to build. We promote doers, we harbor educators and we encourage discourse. Through these endeavors we believe folks gain experience, knowledge or at least the motivation to go gain new skills and/or possess higher thoughts. Now we ask you to stay in touch and return your enlightened mind to the next generation. Positive feedback cycles and builds. While these travails often appear less convenient than alternatives, they build character of a kind that our country needs. Embrace the road to recovery with a strong hand; a fist full of fire. Help us blaze a trail past red tape and bureaucracy. Help us get big things done.
Please. And Thanks.
