Help Fund & Support - Kainbigan - Filipino Comfort Food

Kainbigan has leased a space in Oakland to bring Filipino Comfort Food to the masses. We just need a little more help to make the dream a reality.

My name is Charleen Caabay, Chef/Owner of Kainbigan. Kainbigan serves Filipino Comfort Food in Oakland, CA. I created Kainbigan back in 2007, and that's when I realized that there was a need for Filipino food in my community. In Tagalog, the word kain means "to eat" and the word kaibigan means "friend". Where there is good food, there is always good company.  I've always had a passion for cooking since as young as my teen years and up until now.  I have been fortunate enough to share my culinary skills by catering many different special events, parties, and venues. Introducing Filipino food to new taste buds in my town, and bringing traditional flavors back into the scene continues to be my passion.

I wanted to focus my culinary specialty on Filipino food because of the lack of it in the city that I live in, Oakland, CA.  As diverse and cultured as this city is, there is scarce access to Filipino Food.  Though lumpia and pancit are popular choices in the Filipino food culture, I wanted to introduce other Filipino favorites to the community such as adobos, turon and sinigang to name a few.  As a 2nd generation Filipino, I feel that Filipino food has become more and more Americanized.  I want to bring back traditional comfort Filipino food to my generation and community.

In doing this campaign I am asking for your support to my dream and help to get Kainbigan up and running. Your donation will help greatly towards this goal.  By donating you are helping me fund kitchen equipment, furniture, construction expenses to bring the restaurant to code, permit expenses and a variety of small miscellaneous expenses.  In return I promise to cook the best Filipino food in the East Bay for you to enjoy.
