Update, January 6, 2014: In order to immediately pay for search and rescue efforts, we are ending our donation drive early. All funds will be transferred as soon as possible to pay for the chartering of private helicopters and providing other air support; boats,
divers and underwater support; as well as any other related equipment,
fees or expenses. We thank you all for your generosity and hope you can help us make one final push to provide as many funds possible to ensure an expansive and intensified search effort. Please forward this page to your networks and ask that they donate towards the return of Adel to his family.
Update, January 5, 2014: Thanks to everyone who helped raise $50,000 in one day! We may have reached our initial goal, but we aren't stopping the campaign - more resources have been mobilized on the ground in response to this effort, and all of that requires funding. Every dollar you give will go towards bringing Adel home, so keep giving & keep telling your friends.
Please help us find Adel Ait-Ghezala by supporting however you can.
At around 4pm Dubai time on January 1, 2014, Adel disappeared while diving with 3 friends and his wife Rana about 20 miles off the coast of Dubai. There have been search efforts by the UAE Coast Guard and the volunteer search effort has consistently ramped up. It is possible that Adel may have been quickly distanced from the boat by a current or that he found his way to one of the many tiny islands in the area.
What your contributions will fund
Contributions will be used toward immediate searches to augment existing search and rescue efforts by authorities and volunteers, including chartering private helicopters and providing other air support; boats, divers and underwater support; as well as any other related equipment, fees or expenses needed to facilitate a successful search mission. The $50,0000 raised will pay for 2 solid days of searches by these private businesses who are ready to commit their time to the search.
If there are any unused funds, they will be used to reimburse the family for logistical expenses directly related to the search and rescue effort, and any funds remaining after that will be donated to a charity.
We urgently need your help
Adel was equipped with a wet suit, fins, a speargun and a snorkel, but no tank. The Dubai Coast Guard along with volunteer boats and divers from the world over have been engaged in search and rescue efforts, and we're doing everything we can to fill any gaps and ensure maximum search coverage.
Time is of the essence
Adel has been missing for 5 days - in order to ensure his safe and immediate return to his wife, family, and friends, we must act now. Please donate what you can and share this link with your friends.
If you are not able to provide financial support but have access to any other resources that can aid in the search, such as access to boats, divers, air support, or other support services, please send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
