Help Bring Vine to Downtown Gainesville

Vine bakery wants to move downtown! We need your help to make it happen.

Short Summary

We are excited to have an opportunity to move our bakery downtown! “WE” are Dean and Teresa. Dean is the baker and work-around-the-clocker, and Teresa makes pasta and manages the business aspects. Our current warehouse location in the NE industrial neighborhood provides very limited retail space, is too hot, and will not allow us to be licensed as a restaurant/cafe.  This fundraising effort is just for that purpose. This move would allow us to become much more than a wholesale bakery.

We have been in business for nearly 2 years. Our specialty is organic sourdough breads and organic pasta. It has always been our decision to work with only organic flours. We believe it is a healthier choice. We started selling our goods at the farmer's markets and wholesale to downtown restaurants. Soon afterwards we were able to sell our food at the Citizen's Co-op and Ward's Supermarket. Our offerings have grown to traditional types of pastries, coffee, and most recently we attained a beer and wine license.

Dean has nearly 20 years of restaurant experience in Gainesville. He would love to put that experience to great use and share it with the community. Teresa has been the office manager at Satchel’s Pizza for 8 years keeping the books tidy and right. While we will continue to provide our breads and pastries to local businesses, we will also be able to provide the general public with a bakery and cafe experience.

While we feel we’ve been in business long enough to have a viable concept and product, banks won’t loan money to such new businesses. We need your help to make our dream a reality. Every dollar counts!

What We Need & What You Get

The new location at 627 N Main Street has not been used for any kind of food service for some time, and the fundraising will go to equip the building for our business. Moving and remodeling is expensive. We’ll hire a contractor to pull permits and run new gas lines. We’ll hire professionals to help us move the ovens and install a hood over them to vent the heat. We’ll be installing sinks and additional plumbing for new work areas and build out an enclosed workspace. ANY and ALL funds will be used to make this move happen for us.  This is a unique opportunity for the community to make an investment in the equity of Gainesville by helping to create a great downtown bakery/cafe for all to enjoy.

Our perks are coffee, pastries, bread, pasta, wine and tshirts. If you haven’t tried our goods, please come see us at the Wednesday market downtown or the Saturday market at Haile. We use only organic flour and put love and quality ingredients into everything we do. By helping us fund this move, you will get the satisfaction of helping us achieve our dream while improving your town.

The Impact

The community response to our products has been tremendous.  Our growth has been steady. It is this response that is allowing our dream to continue. This project expands the growing downtown business community and fills a void, enriching Gainesville's dining options and hiring people too.

The location on Main Street is convenient in its proximity to Publix and downtown. After grocery shopping at Publix you can easily stop in for artisan bread and homemade pasta. Imagine biking up for coffee and a scone on a Saturday morning.... Gainesville is such a great town and this downtown bakery will make it that much better. If we can make this dream a reality, we hope to expand and be able to serve soups, sandwiches, and even vegetarian dishes and fish. This is the beginning of something BIG. Be a part of it.
