Benjamin Hanna is fourteen years old. He has been competing in rock climbing for three years now. His first year, after sitting half the season out because of a broken wrist, he decided he wanted to qualify and compete at the National Championships. I'll be damned if he didn't, he placed 10th.
The following year he qualified again and placed 4th, earning a spot on the Junior US Sport Climbing Team. Unfortunately he was too young to continue on to the World Championship, his next goal.
This year he made it to Nationals again to finish 7th, two spots away from traveling abroad. However, earlier this month we found out he recieived a second round invitation to compete in Santiago, Chile at the 2012 IFSC Pan American Youth Sport Climbing Championships on November 21. Finally his dream of competing abroad could be realized! Too bad booking a flight to South America on three weeks notice is so expensive.
We're are asking people to help cover the cost of traveling Benjamin and his coach, Andre, to Chile by giving what ever amount they feel. No donation is too small and every one is greatly appreciated.
Benjamin didn't want to ask from others without giving back in return, so he decided to pledge for every $100 earned he will volunteer and hour at the National Audubon Society in Santa Fe, NM.
